Bungie released a new update for The Edge of Fate expansion in Destiny 2 that allows players to test weapons and builds through different scenarios with damage numbers thrown in. The community has so far been less than enthusiastic toward the product.
The @DestinyTheGame Twitter handle had announced the new feature: “Bring your raid team to test weapons and builds with real damage numbers against a variety of combatant scenarios. Available to all players in The Edge of Fate.” Yet, within moments, players were complaining in the replies that those damage numbers did not really reflect the damage done during actual gameplay.
Player @UCardz8543 asked point blank, “Are yall aware that the damage values here are just not accurate at all?” While @MABER1211 added, “Too bad its broken and is displaying 2/3 of the damage dealt.” Ouch.
It was not being said by one or two persons; this seemed to be a problem several players were confirming as factual: @formerlypork, “Which ones are the real damage numbers?” Whereas @TheThereGuy1 went straight with, “Damage numbers aren’t matching the scoreboard.” And content creator @Aztecross had this problem brought up in a video by @omar_alajeeli.
The players vowed so many curses at Bungie for their faulty launch. In the meantime, @ty_lee205 vented, “I’m refunding The Edge of Fate until this company starts releasing functional expansions in a reasonable manner.” Meanwhile, @ChildishCG snarked, “Maybe make sure your stuff works properly before your scheduled tweets about them go out.”
But, you see, not everyone went on to curse. A few people really appreciate this addition, worthy or not. @Ethanshmeethan said, “I would love it if the dmg numbers on the plates match what visual dmg numbers I’m getting when shooting an enemy.” Then @vagrantpistol also exclaimed, “It’s pretty exciting to see this as a Division 2 player wanting this stuff implemented for years now.”
That is, this is a step in the right direction; however, it seems to backfire. Players have been asking for a decent firing range for years- @4thHorsemanCaty commented, “Only took 3+ years and a majority of the population lost to finally implement a community desired feature.”
What is s up now? There has been no response from Bungie to this backlash. But the community is loud enough, and something should follow, if not a formal acknowledgment, sooner rather than later. Until then, I would urge the Guardians to double-check damage numbers on their raids.
But yay! At least now there’s one! Maybe a little buggy on launch, but hey, classic Destiny.
