Bungie had to open the bag of anti-hype. With the launch being a matter of days away and the reception so far having been mixed, that tweet almost seemed destined to clash with the adoring throng of fans clamoring to the extinction of a Taken Phalanx.
Now some folks are carrying hype. Cautiously optimistic players like CrowsFuneral tweeted, “I’m ready for what’s new but cautious. Prove me wrong 🫡🤝.” Or others are trying to manifest it: “Please be a third darkness subclass Please be a third darkness subclass Please be a third darkness subclass.” Bruh, we hear you—just give us that void juice already.
The hype ship isn’t full. “Still not hyped,” said TheBruce13, a chilly drop on that air, to which KeeperOfCheese responded, “Don’t make me regret buying this.” Ouch! The server crashing is what worries AlanDav30522956, not the story: “The only thing unknown is how long the servers last before crashing again.” A fair point, given Bungie’s track record.
Those guys are just waiting for the reviews. RajinJames said, “I’ll wait to see what my old school D1 nerds say,” while Dab5102 confessed that he doesn’t grind for any gear anymore, “I barely play… I only check weekly on Eververse for bright dust items.” Somebody has burnout.
The topic came up about race-timing. “No.. the race ends on Monday reset,” AnUglyBrute clarified, starting a mini-thread on the topic of why Bungie sets these events during the weekend. Falloutplays added: “Because more people (usually) avail to play on weekends,” whereas firepats12 simply replied: “Because bitches cry about it being on Friday.” Preach.
Another sore point is the power-leveling changes: “My biggest concern is the changes to how Power Leveling works… I wish they just dropped it for set difficulty levels,” said VibesTheArtist. Meanwhile, ST34RM said, “‘We will never get those good ole days back… The GRIND loses players,” reminiscing about Destiny 2.
And what about the collectors? AoNRush is sweating bullets: “And my collectors edition hasn’t even shipped yet :/.” RIP.
So what’s the verdict? Edge of Fate is coming whether we are ready or not. Certain Guardians are ready to embark on the singed Road, some are side-eyeing Bungie like a suspicious Engram, on the other hand, some are tired. Will it perform? Five days will tell. In the meanwhile, stock up on caffeine — it’s going to be one long weekend.
Oh, and if you’re still unsure? Maybe wait for the inevitable Day 1 server meltdown to get out of the way. Just saying.
