PAX Australia is officially underway. Fans are stoked about a lot of announcements from major developers, including CD Projekt Red. They’re currently hard at work on Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated games of 2020. Fans in attendance were treated to additional gameplay, showcasing a little bit more of Night City.

In addition to this footage, the head of the Krakow department — John Mamais — sat down and shared a little more on the game in a Q/A with GameSpot. He went into detail about a lot of things, including Cyberpunk 2077 possibly coming to the Nintendo Switch, the presence of microtransactions, and the developing team being able to honor the April 2020 release date.

As far as a Switch port, Mamais didn’t rule that out. He mentioned how it was amazing to see The Witcher 3 come to the Switch and if that’s possible, a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch port wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. He’s certainly right. Nintendo has done a great job at bringing some of the most popular games to this hybrid console. Strolling through Night City using the Switch’s handheld device would be a gamer’s dream come true.

Now let’s get into the topic of microtransactions. Ever since their introduction by publishers, they’ve been a hot-button issue. Mamais seems to fall on the side of the gamers. He described how he understands the decision to use them, as it’s a great way for publishers to make a profit. However, introducing them can cause fans to get upset and then ultimately the company loses some good will. It makes sense that they won’t be available at launch.

CD Projekt Red seems keen on this game being a passion project, where they go to extraordinary lengths to give gamers the best experiences possible. That’s what has set this developing team apart from a lot of others over the years. Just look at The Witcher series. It’s beloved by many because of their epic stories, RPG elements, and addicting gameplay. You can expect Cyberpunk 2077 to have the same elements, possibly making it one of the best RPGs in quite some time.

Now, can CD Projekt Red fulfill their promise of releasing the game in April of next year? Like any major AAA game, there are always obstacles to overcome. However, it seems like the developers are remaining firm on this release date. Ultimately, we’ll just have to see — but the game already is showing a lot of promise.
