On Thursday, CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher franchise and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, confirmed that their September release will have no less post-launch DLC than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Of course, the 2015 open-world title had 16 total DLC packs, two of which — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — were story expansions.
While speaking during an investor’s Q&A session, CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński talked about what will be coming to Cyberpunk 2077 after the game gets released in September, saying that it’ll have “no less DLC than The Witcher had.” Also, CDPR’s president said to expect them to reveal the game’s DLC similar to how they did it with The Witcher 3, where they announced its expansions three months before the scheduled release date.
Back in September of 2019, Max Pears, who is CD Projekt Red’s level designer, said that the Poland-based developers learned a lot from The Witcher 3’s DLC and that they’re going to apply those lessons to how they approach Cyberpunk 2077’s post-launch content.
“We’ve learnt from that and that is the strategy for how we’ll apply DLC to Cyberpunk as well.” said CD Projekt Red’s level designer. “We’ll look to take what we’ve learnt from Witcher 3 and apply that. With Witcher 3 the game got better with quality of life updates for the community as well, like how we improved the UI and things like that.”
Even though a lot of upcoming releases are getting delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with the most recent example being The Last of Us: Part II, CD Projekt Red is still confident that they’re going to get the game out by its scheduled release date of September 17. Originally, the game was scheduled to be released on April 16.
While speaking about Cyberpunk 2077’s development in our current situation, CD Projekt Red’s president said that, even though the developers are working from home, as of right now, there have been no major disruptions.
“Since mid-March we have been working from home, while ensuring continuity of all our of operations,” Kiciński said. “Our goals haven’t changed; first and foremost, we intend to release Cyberpunk 2077 in September. We feel motivated and have the necessary tools at our disposal to meet this goal.”
We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks and months, but it appears that, despite our current situation, CD Projekt Red doesn’t anticipate facing any issues regarding the September release of Cyberpunk 2077.
