Last week, Activision officially revealed when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone will enter season three, as both will begin their third season on Wednesday, April 8. As per usual, the new season will bring a ton of new features, modes, playlists, weapons, maps, and operators, so expect the update to be pretty sizable when it gets released tomorrow.
In the trailer below, Infinity Ward and Activision promised the return of old friends, with Modern Warfare’s campaign protagonist Alex, who now has a prosthetic leg, being shown in action. Also, the trailer teases bigger squads, and even though they didn’t give an exact player count, a recent data-mine suggests that the maximum squad size will be increased from three to four.
The trailer states that new maps will come to the base version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as two maps from previous MW games, will return for the game’s upcoming third season.
- Backlot (originally in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare)
- Village (originally in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3)
Two new weapons will also be added in Modern Warfare’s season three update: the SKS Sniper Rifle, which is a lightweight semi-automatic carbine chambered in 7.62x39MM that has a faster fire rate than other weapons in its class, and the Renetti, which is a well-rounded semi-automatic 9MM pistol that excels at close-range combat.
New playlists will also be added to Call of Duty: Warzone, as the standalone, free to play application will add a duos and quads variant to the Battle Royale mode. Also, Warzone’s BR mode will get a High Action playlist, where the gas circle closes much faster than usual, a One-Shot playlist where one headshot = one kill, and a Hardcore playlist. So, it looks like players will have a ton of options after season three launches sometime tomorrow.
As of right now, it’s unclear what the file size will be for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone’s season three update, but given that so much content is being added, it’s realistic to expect it to be quite large. Of course, some of the content that gets added will either be locked behind the game’s Battle Pass, or it’ll only be available for the base game. So, don’t expect to see new maps get added to your game if you don’t already own Modern Warfare.
Although we don’t know what time the update will be added to Modern Warfare, we do know that, as previously mentioned, the update will be out sometime tomorrow.
