In recent months, all of the leaks regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s upcoming Battle Royale expansion, called Warzone, have suggested that it’ll be free to play like other BR-based applications such as Apex Legends and Fortnite. However, while the mode will likely be free to download, it might require an active PlayStation Plus membership, which is something that the two aforementioned Battle Royale titles don’t require.
All signs seem to point toward Infinity Ward officially revealing Call of Duty: Warzone later today, and in advance of the official reveal, ads hyping the mode appeared on Twitch. Of course, the ads were pulled shortly after being discovered. As per usual, someone was able to take a screenshot of the COD: Warzone ad, which stated that an active PS Plus membership will be required to play the upcoming Battle Royale expansion.

All of the leaks regarding Call of Duty: Warzone have confirmed that it’ll be a standalone experience, meaning that you don’t need to own the base game — Modern Warfare — to download the Battle Royale mode. Whether or not it’ll require an active PlayStation Plus subscription is to be determined, but it might be worth noting that, even when COD: Blackout had a free to play trial, it did require an active PS Plus subscription.
Previous leaks have suggested that Call of Duty: Warzone will be capable of hosting up to 200 players per match, but according to new reports, the mode will host up to 150 players per match. It’s also worth noting that players will be able to jump in solo, which contradicts a previous report which suggested that Warzone will be a squads-only mode.
According to YouTuber The Gaming Revolution, the embargo for all Warzone-related content will be lifted at noon Central Time, which is 10 AM Pacific and 1 PM Eastern. So, we’re just a few hours away from officially learning the details of the long-rumored Battle Royale expansion for Modern Warfare.
Several reports have indicated that Warzone will be released on Tuesday, March 10, so Infinity Ward is going to release the free to play application without much official hype, although the leakers have done their work for them in that regard.
As of this writing, Infinity Ward and Activision have opted to remain silent regarding the official reveal of Call of Duty: Warzone, but as previously noted, we’re likely only a few hours away from officially learning the details from the developers.
