Just unveiled is Bungie in a new 15-minute gameplay reveal, a well-crafted attack on hype for its upcoming shooter MARATHON. This great footage uploading via GamesRadar will give the player a first real peek into what the studio had worked on post-initial announcement of the game. And mind you, one has already seen many people going completely bonkers over it.
In case you haven’t caught up, Marathon is Bungie’s resurgence into the sci-fi FPS territory-a sort of spiritual successor to the house’s classic ’90s series-but not exactly your grandpa’s game. The new footage rounds up slick moves, intense gunplay, and that classic Bungie polish in every household of Destiny fame. Neat graphics? Check. Pulse-pounding action? Check. Good vibes? Check.
By now, gameplay reveal sees audience in some vacillating extraction shooter. Think perhaps Escape from Tarkov, but mostly Bungie’s flavor. That UI seems real cool; those guns hit; and oh man, the environments. From claustrophobic hallway board games to alien vistas, it shows Bungie flexing those world-building muscles real hard.
And oh, no story dump, no long cutscenes, just pure gameplay. And that is frankly refreshing. In a time when 90% of trailers are just cinematically made videos, pure hands-on action is such a breath of fresh air. Just get the feel of the movement-something on the sliding, mantling, and something that looks pretty much like grappling hook tech-that really translates into a smooth combat experience.
Anyways, true to the nature of the internet, reactions were swift. Some lit up the comments by calling it a “Destiny killer” (lol), while others are simply happy that Bungie is doing something outside the box that is raising eyebrows about the lack of PvE details that were revealed. But let’s face it; Bungie enjoys shooting stuff, and as far as we can tell, this is no exception.
So when are we getting further details? Bungie is being very quiet regarding even release dates, but dropping this much gameplay will surely mean we are getting something sooner rather than later. Until then, looks like we are just going to be hanging around playing those 15 minutes on repeat while praying for a beta announcement.
So if you have not done that yet, please reward yourself with a click on that link. Marathon is shaping up to be something quite special, and frankly, if this gameplay is any indication, Bungie could just have another hit on its hands.
