The Castlevania games are so full of history. They represent a different era of gaming; a simpler time when platformers ruled the industry. It has been so long since these games first debuted, which were produced by Koji Igarashi.

There are many admirers of this man’s work, and rightfully so. His signature style is so noticeable in all of the Castlevania games. His loyal fans were ecstatic to hear that he signed on to lead the creation of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

The game is being developed by Inti Creates with Michiru Yamane composing the music. This spiritual successor of the Castlevania series has been in the works for quite a while. A Kickstarter campaign started all the way back in 2015. Unfortunately, the game constantly faced nagging delays. Despite all of the obstacles this game and its developers have experienced, it looks like there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

A trailer was recently put out for the game, which revealed a release date. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be available June 18 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. That’s roughly a month and a half away. From what we see in the trailer, it looks like the graphics are much improved from what was originally planned.

The color palette looks much sharper, bringing this retro-style game to the modern era. The graphics feature both 2-D and 3-D textures. They interplay with each other quite nicely. This is truly how the Castlevania games were meant to be played. The combat also looks very promising.

Sure, they’re not the most advanced moves you’ll find in a platformer today. That’s not the focus of this type of game, though. Instead, it’s built around moving from area to area, discovering ways to complete each level. From everything that was shown, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night looks like a winner and a must-own title for any fans of retro gaming.

The visual improvements are refreshing to see. It shows the developers took advantage of the time they had because of the unforeseen delays. If you’re looking to relive some fond memories of playing platformers, this Bloodstained title is turning out to be worth your time.
