Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the next installment in the long-running series and it’s putting vikings front and center. That has been the rumor for quite some time now, but it’s great to get confirmation from Ubisoft officially.

These games have broached a lot of historic eras over the years, including New Orleans during the 1700s and Ancient Greece. Heading back to viking times only seems fitting and instantly makes Assassin’s Creed Valhalla one of the more interesting titles in the franchise to date. And now that we have an official trailer to break down, let’s get into some noteworthy details.

The cinematic trailer shows the people of Norse in their villages. A more peaceful setting is shown, featuring vikings playing with their children. It’s a unique scene compared to brutal, relentlessness savages that vikings are typically portrayed as. It seems like the developer wanted to show the Norse people in a different light.

The softer side is brought home perfectly once the vikings get ready to storm the lands of the English. There is a young woman and child trying to escape the now chaotic village. The main protagonist (presumably) holds off his forces and lets them pass in the night. These kind gestures show that vikings aren’t just some savage people. They have morals and beliefs just like others in society during these historic times.

It’s a great choice from Ubisoft and instantly makes the viking people more likable. The camera then pans over to the face of the English king speaking ill-will towards the viking people. It’s clear he’s out for blood and will stop at nothing to purify his English lands.

The last act is an epic battle between vikings and the English. It’s pretty gruesome and sets up the game perfectly. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla seems like one of the most original installments to date.

You can bet it will garner a lot of attention out of the gate for its viking setting and warriors. They look particularly powerful and will be able to wield all sorts of amazing melee-based weapons. Even better, this game is targeted to release at the end of 2020. That’s great news if you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan.
