It is not uncommon in the gaming community for players to set their own unique objectives. Many times players in Red Dead Redemption II have crossed the large open-world map back and forth. This time players in the community challenged themselves to walk the entire map carrying a bowl of stew.
From the outside, this was a very odd thing to witness as the pack of 20 or more players slowly walked their way across the desert. These events are not uncommon and are known as walk meets within the game. The goal is to simply meet up and walk somewhere encountering animals and other obstacles of the desert.
This particular soup walk was filmed by Reddit user Slonitram and set up by a Red Dead Online player named Zoobz. The journey began next to a campfire in the southwest of the map. Each player received a bowl of stew and gathered to begin their long journey across the world.
The main problem that many players faced during this journey was the common server issues in the game. Red Dead Online will constantly kick players for no apparent reason. For this group, it meant that when you logged back in your stew would be gone and the journey wasted.
This did not stop many players as they simply picked up something else on their way. Pelts, fish, and even dead bodies were hauled across the desert as players slowly walked from point to point. Every so often Zoobz would set up a camp and redistribute stew to anyone who required it.
Server problems were not the only danger that players faced in the journey. Bounty hunters, wild animals, runaway horses, and other players were constant threats to the group. At some point, a train unexpectedly took out half the group spilling their stew all over the tracks.
The group did make it to the east coast of the map, and celebrations were made. The group got drunk and watched a movie together in the game. Slonitram has attempted this journey alone and has the entire experience well documented on their youtube channel.
Although Red Dead Online might not have enough content for the community and the servers are a mess, the players are still finding ways to have fun. With the announcement that Rockstar is now focusing all their efforts on Red Dead Online, players might see more content added but nothing will match the same level of fun and randomness as carrying stew across the desert with your friends.
