If you haven’t had the pleasuring of checking out Just Cause 4 from Avalanche Studios, it gets a lot of things right in the action department. Rico Rodriguez is back and this time he has a South American world called Solis to use as his playground for destruction and violence. Your mission is simple: Take down the high-tech military organization known as the Black Hand. The story elements are okay, but it’s the over-the-top action that really puts over Just Cause 4.

One of the standout features is the insane weather conditions. There are tropical storms, thunderous lightening, and even tornadoes that keep the action sequences going. In addition to moving around them with extreme care, you can use them to your advantage to take out hostile threats in your area. It’s definitely surreal base-jumping down into a cloud of lightning and monstrous winds. Only in a Just Cause game can you find these sort of gameplay experiences.

The open design of Solis also is a shining aspect of this game. You have over 100 square kilometers to explore as Rico Rodriguez. And the environmental designs are not repetitive. It’s pretty diverse — in fact — with snowy landscapes, enchanting rain forests, and harsh desert climates. The variety keeps the explorative design fresh. You’re constantly intrigued about what area you’ll stumble upon next and this excitement stays with you all the way until the end.
