Crucible is one of the many upcoming titles from Amazon’s development team Relentless Studio. The game is an upcoming sci-fi PvP shooter set to release next month. There is not much known about this upcoming title other than the main trailer, and the general pitch heard back in 2016 TwitchCon.

It seems that the mystery will soon be at an end as Crucible is fully released in May. The current description on the Amazon Game’s website says that Crucible is “a fight for survival and control.” You will have to face off against the other competitors as well as the challenges that the planet itself will generate.

The game puts you and your teammates into the Crucible, where you must take down alien creatures, capture objectives, or pursue your opponents throughout the map. This makes Crucible a team-based shooter with changing objectives, but the idea that the planet will adapt to your mission is interesting as well.

According to the New Yor Times, Crucible was originally scheduled to be revealed and released in March. The impact of the coronavirus has pushed this date back several times to try and relieve pressure on the development teams, but May seems to be the final setback.

At TwitchCon in 2016, the developers described the game as a class-based last-man-standing style game. Reports from the New York Times and IGN suggest that the game has been redesigned several times, so no one is particularly sure what exactly the game will have included on its launch.

Fans are expecting a class-based system mixed with shooter-style FPS gameplay. The idea of a blend of PvE and PvP combat creates an interesting mix of strategy. It will be very interesting to see how this title evolves in a competitive sense, as it explores unknown territory for the team-shooter genre.

Crucible is not the only game that Amazon has been working on. Set to release in May is New World, their MMO title full of open-world possibilities. Amazon’s The Grand Tour Game is already available on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for those interested in their racing title.

Crucible is scheduled to release sometime in May. Fans hope for more information closer to release as Crucible prepares a new challenge for fans. More clarity for what this game is will help build expectations, but the premise of an evolving battlefield fits not only the original concept but the idea of a crucible. This is sure to be a unique and innovative title come its release this May.
