Recently, there have been several leaks regarding the Final Fantasy VII remake. Gamers have had access to the full demo intro, images data-mined from the full game, and more.
While some gamers are thrilled to get a peek into the remake before the game has been released, one writer for the game has expressed disappointment.
This article contains no spoilers for the leaks.
リークって、ほんといろんなもの踏みにじってくれるよな。
— K.Nojima (@sgwr1) January 2, 2020
The leaks occurred when the demo was mistakenly uploaded on the PlayStation game store. While it was available, information for the full game was revealed, including file sizes and a possible release on PC.
While many fans who played the original titles wonders how one can spoil a decades-old game, there are new elements to the remake. Players would get to see the world of FF7 using the most current gaming technology.
The leaks were exciting to fans, but disappointing to some of the developers who have been working on the remake for years.
One of the members of the team, Kazushige Nojima, took to Twitter to express his disappointment in the leaks. Nojima has been the main scenario writer for many Final Fantasy games, including the most recent FF7 remake.
Nojima felt the feelings of the development team were “trampled” on due to the leaks.
Fans responded to Nojima’s tweet with praise and support. Many promised not to look at any of the leaks and that they would wait patiently until the first episode of the game was released. Others used the opportunity to criticize Square Enix for releasing the game episodically instead of all at once, like the original PlayStation game, which was released on multiple discs.
Nojima thanked fans and commented, “Thank you, wonderful people. I was healed. good night.” He posted another tweet with the Oasis song “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”
The 2020 release of Final Fantasy VII is a remake, but many of the story elements and characters remain the same. The official summary from the Square Enix website states: “Cloud, an elite SOLDIER operative turned mercenary, takes part in an Avalanche operation to destroy Mako Reactor 1 in the city of Midgar. The bombing plunges the city into fiery chaos, and amidst the raging inferno, Cloud is tormented by visions of a bitter enemy long thought dead.”
The Final Fantasy VII remake will be released on PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020.
