Capcom has given fans a chance to experience Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 on the switch early. Both games now have demos on the shop available for download. This is slightly early but gives fans a good look at what to expect during the release.
Resident Evil 5 was originally released in 2009. It follows the BSAA agent Chris Redfield as he travels to the district of Kijiji in Africa. He gets partnered with Sheva Alomar and must complete a mission to apprehend a bio-weapons dealer named Ricardo Irving.
As with all Resident Evil games, things get quickly out of hand. It is not long before Chris and Sheva both end up encountering gory monsters before finally fighting familiar faces. This is a great game to revisit for a more traditional feel of the franchise. If you are new to the series, this is a great introduction as well.
As for Resident Evil 6, the game was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. The game features an epic story with multiple characters from the franchise, all getting their own campaigns. Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Sherry Birkin, and Ada Wong return for another battle to the death with undead and mutated foes.
This game is more expansive than others focusing on the operations of an evil company and the release of the C-Virus. The story was super ambitious, but the game continued the pattern of shooter action resulting in the anger of many fans. Looking back, the ambition paid off, and for many, this is considered one of the best Resident Evil games in the series.
Both games continued their independent storyline from the movie franchise. There are secrets hidden within the walls, and although they take a more active learning approach to the story, they still kept the horror aspect that is needed from this kind of game.
There have been many changes in how the Resident Evil games operate since the release of 6. Although Biohazard returned players to the horror aspect of the world, it lost some of the action and weirdness that the games have become known for. It is interesting to see how the games, from a franchise perspective alone, have evolved over the last few years.
With the end of the movie franchise already passed, the games seem to keep rolling out, each one pushing the boundaries of what is allowed in the franchise. The games are going to launch on the Nintendo Switch October 29. It is only a couple weeks away, so keep your eye out for when these games become available.
