A new indie RPG just dropped on Steam and it’s got all the chaotic party energy you didn’t know you needed.
CoFUNGames released a fresh trailer for The Dragon and the Sword today. The game is available right now on Steam. No waiting around or wishlist torture this time.
The trailer shows off what looks like classic RPG action with a twist. You play as a young heroine who apparently leads the most chaotic party ever assembled. Think your usual RPG crew but with way more personality problems.

The developers are clearly having fun with this one. They’re promising either “glory or spicy defeat” which sounds like the kind of honest marketing we need more of. Most games promise epic adventures. This one admits you might just fail spectacularly.
Indie RPGs have been hitting different lately. While big studios churn out massive open worlds, smaller teams like CoFUNGames focus on character and charm. The Dragon and the Sword looks like it’s leaning hard into that approach.
The “chaotic party” angle is interesting. Most RPGs try to make your companions feel useful and coordinated. This game seems to embrace the fact that traveling with a bunch of weirdos should feel exactly as messy as it sounds.
From what we can see in the trailer, the art style has that hand-drawn indie feel. It’s not trying to compete with AAA graphics. Instead it’s going for personality and atmosphere. That’s usually a good sign for this type of game.
CoFUNGames isn’t a household name yet. But that doesn’t mean much in the indie space. Some of the best RPGs in recent years came from studios nobody had heard of before launch.
The Steam page is already live if you want to check it out. No early access shenanigans or beta testing phases. Just a finished game you can buy and play today.
Party-based RPGs have been making a comeback. Games like Divinity Original Sin and Baldur’s Gate 3 showed there’s still huge appetite for tactical combat and character interaction. The Dragon and the Sword looks like it’s taking those ideas in a more lighthearted direction.
The timing is pretty smart too. We’re in between major releases right now. A lot of gamers are looking for something new to try. An indie RPG that promises chaos and humor might be exactly what people want.
The trailer doesn’t give away too much story detail. That’s probably intentional. Discovery and surprise are huge parts of what makes RPGs work. Nobody wants every plot twist spoiled in the marketing.
What we do know is that your heroine isn’t going on this journey alone. The party dynamics seem to be a big focus. Whether that means deep character relationships or just funny dialogue remains to be seen.
The price point will probably determine how many people give this a shot. Indie RPGs can range anywhere from ten bucks to full price depending on scope. CoFUNGames hasn’t talked much about how long the game is or what kind of content to expect.
Steam reviews should start rolling in over the next few days. That’s usually the best way to tell if an indie RPG is worth your time. Early adopters tend to be pretty honest about what works and what doesn’t.
The Dragon and the Sword could be exactly the kind of surprise hit that makes indie gaming so exciting. Or it could be a fun weekend distraction that disappears into the Steam catalog. Either way, it’s nice to see developers taking chances on weird ideas.
If you’re tired of playing it safe with your RPG choices, this might be worth checking out. Sometimes the best gaming experiences come from studios you’ve never heard of making games that sound slightly ridiculous.
The worst that happens is you’re out a few bucks. The best case scenario is you discover your new favorite party-based adventure. Those are pretty good odds for trying something new.
