The official Twitter account of Apex Legends shared some interesting facts about Mad Maggie this week, but it was a great mistake. They informed everyone that all the cosplay guide posts that they had uploaded had reference images and trivia about the Legends which seemed pretty cool in theory, right? But, they shocked everyone with another fact: “Maggie was only 14 when she defeated her first rival warlord in a fight. They still couldn’t find his big toe.”
Okay, Respawn, we get it, Maggie is a fighter. But what about the players? They were more into important topics than referencing lost toes and cosplay guides.
The response was… to put it mildly, not positive at all. Users were very quick to fill the replies section with complains ranging from disrupted matchmaking to unequal legends. One user @NolesCG said outrightly: “Did you know? Not a fun fact. Your matchmaking is awful. Solo diamond 4, midday, half pred lobbies on console in every game.”
He did not stand alone, though. @BertaEh403 was more straightforward: “Did you know that match making is REALLY BAD? which is, yeah, that pretty much encapsulates the sentiment in the Apex community these days.
Besides, complaints over the characters’ balance came to the surface. @ChyroZero went off about Ash: “Babe Ash needs to be nerfed hard custody now and I’m sick of this no-brainer irritating character. She still broken but for me, she annoying and boring as hell In every game mode.” And @lobastreasure said, “I just know that your game will die if you don’t nerf caustic. He is the least intelligent legend.”
On the other hand, there were some players who were actually interested in the cosplay content but were also annoyed by the lack of content. @Psamatheh commented, “its halloween aka jumpscare season and there is still NO vantage cosplay guide…” which, fair enough – it’s literally costume season and they are missing guides for popular legends.
@wildprotons pointed out that the problems with visuals were no exception. He asked, “Why is there no change in the font color? It is very difficult to read white font on bright background.” This is just a matter of basic accessibility that somehow the developer is still getting wrong.
Furthermore, @yFeedss reported a weird technical problem he had – he couldn’t get APEX coins although he had the necessary money, @lageren1 mentioned wrong photos in the store, and @HzSosdem2 was complaining in Turkish about server problems (which loosely translates to “Stop babbling and fix your damn servers. We have terrible performance.”).
It is surprising how one tweet about cosplay guides turned into an open forum for everything wrong with Apex Legends at the present time. Players are not slightly irritated – they are very frustrated with match-making, character balance, and server issues, plus they are unsatisfied with the priorities of the developers that they deem misplaced.
When @MoleTown_ exclaims “release more lore videos and make a damn anime!!”, it is hard not to picture the excitement behind the words. These people really love Apex Legends, perhaps that is why they get so mad when the game is not working properly.
This whole scenario makes us ponder what is going on at the Respawn headquarters. Do they feel how unhappy their players are? Do they know that gamers would rather suffer through bad matchmaking than listening to Maggie’s tales of teenage wars with the honor among thieves?
It is fascinating to observe how the community is divided in terms of their reactions – on one side, there are those who want the cosplay stuff and the story, on the other, those who just want a functional game, and, in-between, those who demand specific character adjustments. It’s almost like three different conversations happening at the same time in the same tweet replies.
And then we have @ergonaut69 who randomly declares, “Damn I hate those talentless wokies,” which makes one wonder: what relevance does that have in this context? The Apex community really does seem to have it all.
All in all, the Twitter thread has taken the attention away from the cosplay guides and towards the players’ complaints in Season whatever-it-is-now. Nonetheless, it appears that the common sentiment is that people think the developers must first focus on the gameplay and only after that drop the fun facts about the characters’ fictional backgrounds.
But then again, at least we have learned that Maggie was a killer at 14. The only downside is that this doesn’t help when you are up against pr?d stacks in your bronze lobbies. Indeed, the struggle is real in this battle royale.
Perhaps, next time, Respawn should not start with “here’s some trivia about that character you’re all complaining about” but rather with “we fixed matchmaking.” Just a thought.
