Overwatch 2 Season 19 has been made available for Nintendo Switch and the whole area has become a horror place with the addition of Halloween-themed content. Players can now use the new Haunted Masquerade mode, alongside other heroes in the Stadium map, sorcery cosmetics, and so on—and hold it—the mysterious walking legs? I mean, just legs going for a walk? That is really creepy or extremely hilarious, perhaps even both if I say so.
The American branch of Nintendo tweeted the update and recommended players to immediately fire up their Switch consoles. But the replies… Oh God, the replies are totally a different animal. Seems like for a moment everyone forgot about Overwatch and just turned into a crowd of people clamoring for other things.
First up, people are THE LOUD ONES WHO CAN’T HIDE THEIR EUPHORIA about Switch 2. It’s amazing to report that just one comment going “WHERE SWITCH 2 VERSION?” or “Still no switch 2 version. Super surprised…” could stand for the numerous comments. One user even said, “I ain’t playing switch 1 version”, which is a bit strong but that is the gaming Twitter world for you. Someone named Booka was asking a “real switch 2 version of overwatch with at least 60fps support and better graphics”, and it’s really, fair point.
Then came the hating of Overwatch 2‘s strong opposition. One user said “overwatch died bro” while another said “Let ow2 die already” – wow, that’s harsh. A user Fisto Roboto reminisced about all the PvE controversy and said, “when Overwatch 2 said it was going to add a whole PvE mode and then never did? Pepridge farm remembers” – ouch, right in the nostalgia.
The walking legs thing was also very much discussed. OYA Play called it “nightmare fuel in 4K” which, by the way, is correct, just try to visualize it – in a shooting game random legs merely walking. That’s either a stroke of brilliance or downright terrifying, there’s no third option here.
All that is left is – all the pleading for Switch 2 and roasting of Overwatch notwithstanding, the debut of some cool new stuff is still a fact! The Haunted Masquerade mode seems to be very suitable for Halloween, and the addition of new heroes in the Stadium could lead to the shifting of the meta. The rise of gothic cosmetics from graves is linking the creepy vibes which are so good for Halloween gaming sessions.
However, some people were confused with season numbering—one of them was Scipio who was asking “Season 19? How many years has it been?” Yes, it has indeed been a long time since Overwatch saw the light of day.
The money-related topic also came up, with Tonon indicating that “paying real money for Halloween skins in Overwatch is financial suicide”—as a matter of fact, it is maybe a hint to wait for them to be included in loot boxes instead.
What’s more, it is curiosity that so many people through Nintendo’s tweet about Overwatch were requesting other games, which were completely different from it. “What about promoting metroid?” was the suggestion of Devilus, while someone else was saying, “Super Off-Road for SNES classic please” and one more was voicing “Nintendo add gamecube games now Slackers”—it was as though they spotted Overwatch and all of a sudden started having thoughts about the good old days with classic games.
And then out of nowhere there came a question from Jose Enciso, who asked, “Is Nintendo still working with Homeland Security?” which was a total non-sequitur and what? Twitter is sometimes such a surprise to me I guess.
Despite the different reactions, it seems that Overwatch 2 Season 19 is making way for the Switch version and new content. However, the legs walking mystery is the weirdest of all—are they sneaky NPCs? The perils of nature? Just the decorative horror elements? The tweet did not really clarify that, leaving the gamers to discover that spooky surprise for themselves the hard way.
If any, Blizzard’s seasonal updates show the intent not to entirely drop the Switch version even if the players are pleading for next-gen features. The Halloween period is almost here and it is the perfect time for some horror gaming even if it happens through the “old” Switch hardware which some critics deem.
So, whether you are going to be extremely happy about the new content or just calmly waiting for the Switch 2, Overwatch 2 Season 19 with ghosts, masks, and presumably walking legs is coming to your door. After all, why not have living limbs in your shooter, right? Only in Overwatch buddy. Only in Overwatch.
