Trials of Osiris returns to Destiny 2, with new weapons and armor for the players to pursue. Even though the announcement tweet from Bungie gave the much-needed hype on the return of Trials, the reaction from the community has been… a mixed bag.

The tweet was tempered with an announcement from @DestinyTheGame, which confirmed the return and urged players to seek out Saint-14 in the Tower to start up. This week’s map is The Burnout. A much-loved Destiny 1 map has been made kick-ass with a few modern-ized touches. But judging by the conversations occurring inside Trials right now, there seems to be a segment of the player base that is very unhappy with the direction Trials is going this season.

Out comes the loot talk, which has always been a sore subject in Trials and has this time set off a huge argument. One player, @OdomsBen, simply stated that the loot was “ass,” and he questioned why adept weapons weren’t dropping from the Lighthouse. Another player, @GarfNumba1Fan, sarcastically advised that probably most of the drops would turn out to be Tier 1 unless you went flawless with Guardian Rank 9. Ouch, wow.

Weapon balance problem? Or maybe there isn’t one. A few players, including @Levievans02 and @DredgenShinobi, have begged Bungie to disable weapon stat bonuses in PvP, calling it “cancer.” In the meantime, @theJthatmatters took it even further by blasting Cronus users for ruining the player experience.

Oh, and there were bugs, too. @James_harbo gave a good example of the suspension bug—where you leave a match as the timer runs out and get penalised regardless—and stated that it’s still an issue. @xachisonfire wondered whether the new armour glows would be broken for another few months considering how they’ve been burned before with similar cosmetic effect issues.

However, not everyone wanted to squelch on it. @TeachPlays_ got in on the fun before launch, and @hughjehnus threw compliments to the season challenge reward, saying it was a “nice lil” addition to the T2 Faustus sidearm. But, alas, those cheers were barely audible with all the wails concerning cheaters, imbalanced mechanics, and poor rewards.

I mean, the best one was from @lifesaber555, who jokes that “Burnout” is a fitting name for the map and for the current state of Destiny 2. Meanwhile, @JRavezz goes into an epic rant about Hunter cloaks-those cloaks are “non-aerodynamic” and ironically make players “more visible than the sun on a clear day.”

So what does the future hold? Trials of Osiris remains, but it seems that Bungie has much to do before PvP can truly claim its own following. The players are weighed down by complaints regarding the loot, balance grievances, and bug issues. Will Bungie answer their cries? Time will tell. For now, all’s out to the Guards to decide if the grind is worth it.

Oh, and Saint-14 is still the coolest vendor in the Tower. Small wins!
