Gameloft has been prepared for a colossal party marking the 20th anniversary of the Asphalt series being introduced with a big bang onto the Switch. Asphalt Legends Unite sees the return of famous cars, an iconic soundtrack, plenty of exclusive rewards, and a brand-new track that mashes three iconic locations into one insane and very high-octane kind of ride. The update is live as we speak, meaning the players can just join in-game at one, no waiting, no fuss, just arcade racing chaos.

That was a game which really did not excite some players; several players complained that it was hard to do juicy acceleration and braking on the Switch because triggers do not have analogs: “Hard to play any racing games on Switch for me due to the lack of analog triggers unfortunately,” MiseriesChild tweeted. Thin is just a group that really do not care: “Yea no, old games no thanks,” Ashley Cummings said-and that budget is nailed down to newer ones like Story of Seasons.

Now too much hunger has been created for the next Nintendo Direct. The gamers flooded the reply section with demands for some news about the next Direct, with some even joking, “Boooo, announce the Direct.” Others, like SolChapo, needed to get down to answering those bigger questions first: “Nah fam, where’s Metroid tho?” Classic.

The update is a love letter for ancient veterans. The new track merges three classic locations into a mad circuit, and the fan-favorite cars’ return gets that nostalgia right into their veins. Now the soundtrack is gonna rage all the way lit, just like back in the days. But a few other went with “dated” on the visuals, and a user had to go and ask sarcastically if the game “was built for the GameCube.” Ouch.

That’s huge for those raised on Asphalt, as Corners puts it: “Asphalt’s going full throttle—20 years of speed, style, and nostalgia!” And if ever there was an excuse to get your dusty Switch out of hiding, this is it. Unless of course, you’re still holding out for that Direct.

But what’s next for Asphalt? If this update is anything to go by, then Gameloft isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. Whether you’re in it for the cars, the music, or the adrenaline, Legends Unite is a solid reminder of why this series has lasted the two decades. Now, if Nintendo could just drop that Direct already.
