A Destiny 2 Tracker tweet actually provided the very first look for Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, meaning the day has not been good so far for Destiny. A Destiny 2 game card just got a simple icon change for the upcoming content, and the player base showered the replies in sarcastic remarks and full roast sessions.

What is even this? It looks like a simple Destiny 2 game card with “The Edge of Fate” written as a subtitle. No gameplay, no new art, just…that. And the community caught on really fast. DylanAiPs pretty much summarized it: “This community is so thirsty for change that a post about a game card is being made.” An ouch. A very, very true one.

The replies then became a battlefield of hot takes. Some players, like Lord_Silverbolt, said: “Looks exactly the same lol,” while Tenno_Deadpool asked the real question: “Gamecard? Don’t you mean App Icon change?” Meanwhile, _GOATCAST took a moment to rain down much criticism: “First look at reskins and same format boring gameplay.”

Bittersweet, really. JonesThePotato opened up: “I wish sometimes to get back to Destiny, but the joy is gone.” They acknowledged the friendships forged through the game and whether they are still playing or not. Scott Richardson then came with the opposing view that argues you do not need to no-life the game to enjoy it; you can just play it casually with friends.

Then the console wars began, with many users targeting the PS4 version. jalenveal123 lamented: “ps4 in the big 25,” whereas SkriaOfficial seemed amazed that old consoles were still being supported at all. FanofKaiCenat_6 had the last word, though, with: “329GB on a PS4 is very dumb just upgrade.” No one can disagree.

The whole storage issue became a thread of its own, filled with complaints over the preload issues and the ridiculous file size. NoAlphaCodeFckU kicked off the entire chain of “we can’t preload” that was immediately followed by “upgrade to SSD” suggestions and then arguments about which version actually allows early downloads. Good old Destiny community spirit right there.

Now, these would have been some serious meme moments. CaydesGuardian dropped a meme saying, “I pretend I do not see it,” and rocky49s followed up with a GIF of a struggling PS4. TheMNight4’s “Omg, a png111” might just be the most accurate thing uttered in this thread.

And well, from II_JumPeR_I came the classic “People still play this lol?” remarks, and pedrido_carlos just had to keep going with the “Another scam” rally. Because, you know, no Destiny reveal is complete without those.

What is somewhat interesting is how something so trivial could spur such a strong reaction. Perhaps because they’re actually hungry for some real news about The Edge of Fate. Or perhaps it’s just because the Destiny community is infamous for complaining. Or then again, maybe it really is because at the end of the day, after all these years, people really still care about this game-even if what they basically do is roast it.

On the other hand, this was merely a small teaser-well, said to be the/thumb equivalent of Bungie clearing their throat just a little before the real announcement. But this passionate response speaks about how engaged the whole Destiny 2 player community is right now. Whether that engagement stays around as hype or sarcasm, well… In a nutshell, that’s the Destiny experience.

So, all that matters now is waiting on the actual Edge of Fate content to either live up to expectations or at least give them something heavier to talk about than an icon change. Here’s hoping.
