CD Projekt Red pushed out some fantastic fan art of Cyberpunk 2077 with the city’s most cherished netrunner, and while it really is fabulous, I think the players are far more concerned about the simple question: “Update 2.3… where art thou?” The official Cyberpunk account shared a gorgeous spike-inspired netrunner-themed fan art with the caption: “Watch your firewall. Guard your soul.⚠️The best netrunner is out here- and she doesn’t knock.” The comment section got flooded with gamers begging for any scrap of news concerning the long-awaited patch instead of engaging in any discussion about the artwork.
The untitled piece by Igraine depicts a cyber-enhanced woman with glowing circuitry tracing its way on and off the front of her face and body, pretty much embodying the unstoppable hacker who can break into any system in Night City. Under normal circumstances, it would have been appreciated and adored, but players now seem to be on tunnel vision over the 2.3 update; we’re talking about dozens of replies, all ignoring the art to ask about the patch notes. One gamer @iDr2K did not mince words, “I don’t think anyone cares about fan art give us update 2.3.” Ouch.
But this deep impatience is justified; Update 2.3 was initially scheduled for release towards the end of April, and here we stand in mid-May with not a single word uttered or a chime sounded yet by CDPR. Gamers like @IDunno_IDC remarked on how strange it is that “for a relatively minor update…it sure is taking a while.” Others joke around with “we will get GTA VI before update 2.3” from @indianbenboy. The lust is real, chooms.
Not all are sour, though. Defending CDPR, @Bebomac5 stated, “Please take your time! Make the update as great as possible!” Fair-they know exactly how that launch went. Perhaps the devs are learning fast now the hard way about rushing out things. Nonetheless, it’s this complete silence that drives players such as @benmitchell76 crazy, as he interjected with an appeal for CDPR to “give us info on what we can actually expect” rather than just leaving everyone hanging.
The ones commenting about the art have some weighty things to say about it. @Tokenn went full-lore, pointing out how Alt Cunningham was actually the most important character in the entire Cyberpunk 2077 story. And @TheLostGlitches dropped the poetic: “She didn’t just break the net, she became the net,” pushing one to experience the game all over again immediately.
Thinking about it, the divergence of reactions among the community is kinda funny. On one side, you have folks breaking down cyberpunk themes and appreciating great artwork, while on the other, you have an irate mob demanding patch notes like Night City mercenaries waiting on their eddies. Classic Cyberpunk 2077 community moment.
CDPR really should at least consider dropping those patch notes and calming the crowd already. Or, at the very least, give us a teaser about what’s next. Because, as much as we appreciate that fan art, players know where their priorities lie- they want the contents of that update! As far as they care, it could be anything: new features, bug fixes, or even just QOL improvements. But the silence is driving the fanbase up the walls. Here’s hoping for some official news real soon before the comment chains dissolve into full-blow cyberpsychosis.
