FromSoftware just dropped a monstrous update for the Elden Ring community—the resurrection of the three most terrible Nightlords seen during the Nightreign event. In the coming three weeks, the Everdark Sovereigns, namely, Gaping Jaw, Sentient Pest, and Darkdrift Knight, will be terrorizing players again in pairs for another-was-it-needed?-round of horridly difficult encounters. Now, to be fair, some are excited about this, while others…say another rainstorm is brewing on the horizon.

It was announced from the official Elden Ring Twitter, thanking players for their “valiant expeditions against the Everdark.” But not everyone is feeling it. Could this be the momentum killer? argues one player, retaliation bosses are poor form to good momentum and a good new move. Well, PZMGMBH777 said it outright: “This is how you absolutely kill momentum… many will leave Nightreign.” Ouch.

But hey, the weather is not so cool. The defense was held firmly by DarkBlade373 (also Qumora), who reasoned that repetition with progression is what makes rogue-lites bearable to their advantage: “The relics are NOT useless,” they said in reply to those who claimed the rewards were underwhelming. Well, if you’ve played any FromSoft game, then endless grinding isn’t something new to you.

And here comes another relevant issue when considering patterns. MamaxBanido (Max 🌙) brings up the point: “Each Boss’s map has huge patterns… having 3 patterns per map is not a big deal.” In other words, some players are thinking that the fights are not as random as they were told. But others—DarkBlade373 included—claim that they are addictive enough to keep coming back.

Rewards offer yet another dispute. Bufu pretty much summed it up: “Games very fun but there’s no rewards in winning.” And honestly? That’s a fair call. You throw players into the meatgrinder again; they’ve got to have some shiny to go after. CalamityAtom also suggested that players could bet Murk (in-game currency) to challenge certain Nightlords for bigger payouts. Not a bad idea at all.”

Meanwhile, just some other players are sticking with the unpredictability. CFChungus casually dropped the idea we might later see an “Everdark version” of some bosses, which… yeah, that tracks. Because then, this is FromSoftware; they love nightmare fuel.

Where does this leave us? Those stuck on the left who think rehashing bosses is lazy. Those to the right who will take any excuse to rekindle exposure with the Nightlords. And then there are the folk in the middle who want better rewards for the grind.

Nightreign is mad here for better or for worse, whether for the difficulty or the spectacle. Fighting the same old terrible beasts? They might just be the only company capable of putting a fresh coat of paint on FromSoftware. But maybe…just maybe…could they throw in a few more rewards to keep the hype alive? Just a thought.
