Recently, SEGA, in its latest fiscal announcement, dropped a bomb that must have sent many Atlus fans into fits of jealousy as it officially slotted Persona 4 Revival and Stranger Than Heaven for an FY2027 or whatever.” This translates to, in all probability, none of the two will hit land in the next couple of years before April 2026. That’s a forever wait.

The celebratory announcement went viral on social media and brought along peculiar feelings of schism among the players; some look forward to more Persona content, while others are just frankly wondering how Atlus seems to be suffocating from the blessing of monotony in almost everything.”How many times can the same game keep coming out? It’s coming on 20 years old!!” said one user named Shinra1994. And in truth? That is a strong point indeed.

Personify; in all fairness, the Persona 4 Revival is yet another revival of an already very popular JRPG that has last hit retail in 2008. It had been re-released, remastered, and had a dancing spin-off, so another treatment of it should not have shocked anyone. On the other hand, Stranger Than Heaven is still heavily shrouded in mystery. The mere mention of its name has already sparked insane theories, with some stating it is a new Persona spin-off and others claiming it might be something else entirely.

The delay has only fueled speculations for a Persona 6. If Persona 4 Revival and Stranger Than Heaven take this long, where does the next mainline entry stand? A dark take from JamesCartyBoy88: “That means Persona 6 is going to be at least 2027 and possibly a cross-gen game with PS6 and next-gen Xbox due fall 2027.” Oof.

And some are just as confused: “What is a Persona 4 and why there are like 5 of them?” That was Itzedninja uttering that, actually funny in a tragic sort of way. The series has gained a reputation for being esoteric. Now with all these re-releases, an innocent would have no clue where to start.

That was from other folks who aren’t going bald. Capcom333 is full of hype for Stranger Than Heaven, having tweeted, “Stranger Than Heaven is going to be wild.” And Minev28 is trying to sprinkle some rosy pixie dust by saying, “If it’s fiscal year 2027, then it will release in 2026.” That’s a bit of consolation, at least.

Of course, the real question is—what’s SEGA really working on? No_Mad_Kid had plans: “Where’s Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, and Jet Set revivals?” Valid. And SaiyanQuad92 just wants Yakuza announcements. Priorities, people.

This, then, is a very mixed bag of things: An extended wait for all Persona fans; plenty of time to replay Persona 5 Royal once more. And stranger than heaven could either be worth every bit of hype or very well might be igniting hype for nothing, or in the end, because SEGA gave us no bit of clue: Could we all be working on the tenth iteration of Persona 4 already?

So yeah, very mixed. A long wait for all Persona fans, but we’ll have time to replay Persona 5 Royal again. And who knows? Maybe Stranger Than Heaven will be worth all the hype. Or maybe by then, we’ll all be working on the tenth iteration of Persona 4. Either way, SEGA doesn’t seem to be giving us any clues.

For now, it’s all about flashing those 2026-2027-calendar-year marks and praying that Atlus doesn’t throw us under the bus for too long. Or in typical Atlus fashion, maybe they’ll just announce another remaster of Persona 4. Would anyone really be surprised?
