Civilians unseen were the hidden and forgotten civilizations of Teyvat: this recent lore drop from Genshin Impact has gotten fans buzzing about the Frostmoon Scions-the descendants from the glory days of a golden realm, who now live something of a hermit-like existence way up in the mountains and deep in the forests. And, going by a recent tweet from the official Genshin handle, that tranquil way of living will soon cease!
So who are the Frostmoon Scions? They are but the last vestiges of a bygone civilization that forfeited a hardened civilized life to lead an unflared life within nature. The only thing they would ever cling to is their unshaken faith in the Moon Goddess. Ain’t that a poetic statement? Sounds like straight from a fantasy novel, but then according to Genshin’s trend, deepening hues are going to set in again.
See, Fatui-the scheming, undermining faction that can never seem to leave anybody alone. Thankfully for Fatui with the Harbinger nuts, any visit cannot be good news for the ancient-gold realm-trove-moon-whatever beings and all bets are on for their ending with the Frostmoon Scions, communal life at the brink.
Fatui don’t have much of a history of dropping in for pastries, as any Genshin lore buff should know. Their dark deeds take many forms, some of which might include controlling nations, stealing divine power, or basically making life difficult for everyone in one way or another. Interesting new plot for them, though, really. Beyond hunting down the Scions’ faith or their land, could there be something still worth taking down from those mountains?
Fans are currently having quite a meltdown with theories. Some speculate that this will intertwine with future story content or possibly even a new region or expansion. Others are convinced that the Frostmoon Scions must be deemed significant in an Archon Quest, especially with the Moon Goddess connection. And can we think moon goddesses carry a little weight in Genshin (we see you, Tsaritsa).
And really, that artwork accompanying the tweet was so beautiful, huh? (Duh, because Genshin’s art team has never put a foot wrong). It shows a peaceful moonlit village in the mountains and a single figure looking up to the moon. Such beauty but with the shadows of the sinister Fatui lurking somewhere around?
What does it mean for the game, though? Something very difficult to say; however, one known factor is that Genshin Impact’s world is forever expanding, and the Frostmoon Scions may be the next piece of the puzzle. Whether they will turn out to be allies, victims, or anything in between remains a huge question mark.
Until that arises, we could throw around some theories that could help us stock some Primogems should any character from this faction become eligible. Because let’s face it: if the Frostmoon Scions do get a playable rep, you best believe we will be pulling for them.
However, let us keep checking back for updates. Is it possible to get messier from this point onward? And messier in Teyvat means epic.
