After a big announcement from PlayStation regarding the new James Bond game 007 First Light arriving on PS5 in 2026, the teaser for the title tantalizingly offered players their first steps with Bond to becoming the world’s greatest spy-but apparently, this isn’t the 007 everyone is familiar with.

The reveal trailer from PlayStation looked slick and agile and was peppered with criticism for its stealth mechanics and the bond looking younger than ever. Some gamers consider it a spiritual successor to Uncharted, while others take a wary stand on the modern rendition of an iconic character.

One player @ShadePJ said that young Bond did not quite make the classic 007 vibe: “I really hope we still get those classy, signature moments.” Well, @Yo_its_Flo7 said we don’t see those kinds of games coming from big studios any longer, praising the possibility of unusually deep level design and various different playstyles.

There’s still a few skeptics out there. @BigGreenBanjo quite bluntly said, “Bond does not work in the modern day,” while @Web3jorge suggests the graphics look like something from the “PS2.” Zing.

Then there is the other issue: Is this even James Bond? @1977Redd offered a rhetorical observation with: “A new face? So it ISN’T James Bond?”-accompanied by a mini-sedition in the replies over whether Bond has always been the same guy (spoiler: he hasn’t).

The contrast in gameplay is already on. @MiguelArtwork16 feels it looks like Blood Stone from 2010-a cult favorite, whereas other people are catching vibes of Quantum Break or even Hitman (sorry Agent 47 aficionados; clearly, Bond still is The GOAT).

Now, of course, the exclusivity chatter is being ratcheted up. Celebrating the PS5 only announcement was @Tactica1_Gamer, and @xLEGITATTIRES answered, “Xbox too,” stirring hopes for a possible multiplatform release.

With 2026 as a release date, now IO Interactive has a ton of time to really polish this thing and hopefully answer the biggest question of all: Will this really feel like a Bond game, or will it just be another action adventure with a famous name slapped on it?

One thing I can almost guarantee: Things are going to get interesting for the espionage genre. Now, if only somebody can find that pre-order button.
