Xbox dropped off an esoteric little teaser on a mysterious lighthouse, and suddenly gamers went absolutely wacko. The cryptic missive promises a deep dive into Keeper during the Xbox Gamescom broadcast and little else. So what’s the scoop with this lighthouse? And why is everybody on it nowadays?
That very first tweet is utterly vague: one line about more learning to expect and a link to the broadcast. Now the replies section-that’s complete chaos. Some are buzzing to get hyped, others remain skeptical, and a handful have dashed off to whip up some fan theories concerning secret robberies and Bioshock-level pain. The internet, classic indeed!
@onlyonepacman instantly conjured up images of a lighthouse functioning as a heist setup location in GTA Online, with entries by boat and NPC guards. Whereas @GTAModFrance joked that in the game world, lighthouses hide either treasure or emotional damage. That’s it. And honestly, they’re right.
Here’s where Double Fine comes into the mix. An awful lot of responses were mentioning Psychonauts 2, lauding the studio’s achievements and hoping Keeper basically had a similar sort of quirky charm. Others disagreed, however. @ErsintheNorth accused Xbox flatly of terrible track with cancellations and demanded that they not cancel this one sort of. Ouch.
@ericnofsinger deepened the mystery even more by wondering whether the lighthouse might tell its own stories. Then, @PacManModdz wondered if that type of creepy setting usually meant deep lore and plot twists. Does Keeper house a narrative bombshell? Or is that… actually just a really tall building with a light on top?
No announcements from Xbox just yet, but boy, the hype is real. And even those players that seem to have, for some funny reason, forgotten this game ever came to be (shoutout to @MartinezEr43977) are tuning in. The answer won’t come too long after Gamescom.
Mark the calendars; whether Keeper is this magical bit of hidden glory or just another canned project, the lore was made tall enough already. At least from this angle, we are blessed with some hilarious tweets.
