Xbox’s announcements are coming like a storm. They just keep educating the audience about how far the gaming world has come, and how handheld gaming is going to be one of the biggest factors of great quality all over. But, the comments under those tweets reflect the other side of the coin. People involved in those debates are talking about the Ally X nonstop and nothing else.
One of the factors significantly affecting the discussion is gamer perplexity over Xbox identity and feelings of betrayal among gamers. @KamilPlaysYT, a user, was very precise when he said, “this should just be called Rog Ally since you can’t play xbox console games.” The fans are in a dilemma: on the one hand, the gaming console is branded as a top-notch portable gaming powerhouse, but yet on the other hand, it does not allow playing default Xbox games, which means gamers have to buy the corresponding PC versions instead. It sounds technical, but if you still feel that the Xbox brand is stronger than ever, slightest differences can make a huge impact on customers’ decisions.
The following price discussion was not very favorable to Xbox. @thatdudejuan did not beat around the bush when he said, “No one wants this shitty one same way no one wanted the series s.” Ouch! That was really a harsh remark and a clear sign of the user’s total mistake and misinterpretation of the premium handheld gaming device’s fate. @BLOODY__FATALITY’s comment about how fast the price drop was and how it was already expected or jinxed was also funny. “That was faster than I expected. Lol. It must be really bad for this thing since they raised the price on the Xbox, which is already not selling any units because they gave up on exclusives and moved to GamePass.” It’s a classic gamer view—the old-fashioned sales thinking that the products are sold cheap because the manufacturers could not sell them at the intended price.
But, the line will get progressively clearer. A user @VersaFN8 also known as Meow-MeowFN, wrote a long rant about the Fortnite V-Bucks Crew Pass not being delivered via Game Pass which was very annoying and Xbox had basically robbed their kids and they had to cancel their subscription. They also told users to cancel Game Pass as well! It does not apply at all but it is still there, loud and clear in the replies, showing how one bad customer service experience can spill over into totally unrelated announcements. People are just using this tweet as a loudspeaker for any grudges they have.
With the growing discussions, it looks like the situation is getting really intense among gamers. User @TH3P0PS_X had an extensive thread with @HazzadorGamin that could easily be interpreted as an obituary for the Xbox console. They expressed their thoughts, “Honestly, Hazz, it’s pretty clear Xbox is done with consoles… They are now a PC game company that supports other platforms, where appropriate… Xbox is no longer a console platform. It’s a game platform with PC as its main focus.” Quite important. A core gamer is observing the brand change and feeling a bit confused. Another user, @SonikuRaharu, responded to another user that “Bold of you to assume Xbox would bother reacting intelligently to the market.” The impression is that the company is out of sync.
And then the jokes flood in along with the negativity of the situation. @rope_fast humorously commented, “You just got outsold by a standalone Kinect! BWAHAHAHAHA! You better drop those prices before you find yourself in a Sega-like situation!”, The comparison to Sega ceasing the hardware business is one of the most condescending comments that could be made about the topic. @Jazneo just said, “guess there’ll be no exclusive Xbox games anymore.” This exchange of words shows how much the competition between Xbox and PlayStation still influences the gaming market and even shapes the future of the gaming industry.
