The piece of news that was supposed to be the highlight was just dropped by Blizzard. An announcement was rendered via the official Warcraft Twitter account, and then there were all those talks of remembering Order Halls, defining the use of those brilliant Artifact Weapons once again, and showing Legion that they are definitely not at the level.
And what is the Remix, really? For those who missed out on the Mists of Pandaria experience back in the first few months of the year, it’s gonna be this cool fast-forward-for-all-the-right-reasons kind of fun on an alternate set of servers; you literally create a completely new character just for this mode, somehow level you ridiculously fast in this mode, and then just get really, really powerful, because artifact weapon scaling is infinite on stats. You just earn this basically free bronze currency by doing anything – raids count too – and you can use this to buy both new and old items. Once done with the whole thing, you have the option of sending your characters back over to retail.
The community has reacted…kind of like it’s been reacting to WoW developments lately, to be honest. Some people are just over-the-top hyped. One player cried out in all caps about finally getting the 500 achievement for mounts; another chimed, “My body is ready,” with a preceding flex emoji. There is definitely hype; players who missed out on Legion the first time, as well as those wanting to do it again with a new feel.
You know, though, with a WoW announcement, there comes complaining and questioning. It’s maybe the one that sprouted faster than anything else? Mage Tower appearances. Quite a few players are asking Blizzard to let them have that original Mage Tower artifact skin that was available during real Legion. Someone else brings up that hilarious irony that the announcement is about artifact weapons but really doesn’t even include any new recolors or remix-only skins for them.
Some are wondering about how long for. Somebody asked if it would run until the next expansion drops, Midnight, in other words. Others have pointed out the MOP has lasted for a couple of months, with the final patch 09 December, so probably until the end of the year at least.
Here come all those nostalgia vibes. A few players are going sentimental about having missed being in during WoW’s golden generation. One remarks that they were two years old by the time vanilla landed, mad about missing the TBC until Wrath days. Another joked they were in high school during WoW’s 2004 launch, making some of us feel just a tad bit ancient all of a sudden.
Community suggestions for possible classes to start with for those who are new. One old-time Remix player will go druid first then oll basi rly all classes, as you can farm all sets with one character, since you buy transmog and such with that bronze currency. This is an entirely different kind of experience from retail WoW.
Now, you’ve got some… questionable comments mixed in there. One asked for default control settings and why character-specific movement options don’t save across the whole account. Someone mentioned Dracthyr Paladins for no discernible reason, and then there was a totally random, off-topic political comment that somehow made its way into a WoW thread because…. Internet.
More than anything, players are holding their breath for the memory of Legion to be retained, with quality-of-life improvements and new juicy rewards. Apparently giving MoP Remix a go was a wonderful experience with “so many big numbers and doing so much damage,” shared a player. Being able to be grossly overpowered in a jiffy seems to be the main attraction.
Interesting timing: a few days before the announcement for the next expansion Midnight, something will appear that players can consider while waiting for some fresh content. With a transfers feature from Remix to Retail, this is not just a temporary hold for players-meaning that their progress will mean something down the road.
Mark your calendar for October 7th as this will probably mark the full-on return of old times for all Legion veterans and for all newer players who missed it the first time around. These are going to be arduous days which will be completely filled with artifact power grinds with small hopes of less grind that made players annoyed back in its prime days.
Full steam ahead for the hype train now. It’s either going to be weet and pleasant, getting Blizzard acknowledgment for remaking Legion’s freshness or just fresh paint on the same old content. This gave me so much to work on this October anyway.
