The COVID-19 pandemic has pretty much permeated every factor of our life at this point, and it’s still raging on as strong as ever in most parts of the world. Thankfully, the gaming community is here to do what we can to make self-isolation and social distancing a bit more bearable for everyone.
Fatshark, the developers behind the popular title Warhammer: Vermintide 2, have begun an event that will help with this social distancing as well. They’ve been heavily impacted on the development end by all the differences brought on by the pandemic, and are happy to do what they can to help out their massive player base as well.
Heroes!
We are happy to invite all Vermintide 2 players to participate in this Community Event between 16th and 30th of April! #PlayApartTogether

“In tough times we need each other, and the Ubersreik 5 are no exception,” Fatshark writes in their patch notes earlier today. “Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is ultimately a co-op game, designed to create situations only teamwork can solve, and with this challenge we wish to invite you as a community to come together and help the Reikland. Stay home. Play Together. Heroes Unite.”
So what’s the challenge? A pretty simple one that you’ll be fulfilling with every match you play! Fatshark has implemented a kill counter for the community to fill. The counter goes up with each Skaven, Rotblood, and Beastman that a Vermintide player takes down. This kill counter includes all platforms, so it really is a complete community-wide effort.
This provides an excellently tangible way to see how the members of the community are playing around you, helping to feel connected and part of something as we all strive towards a simple, friendly goal: the genocide of monsters in the Vermintide universe. Beyond such a wonderfully metaphysical reward, though, players will also all be rewarded with a unique portrait frame exclusive to this event.
The counter updates frequently so that it’s always in near-real time. As of writing this, the counter is at 11,665,686 dead monsters, and it’s been updated multiple times in the last minute, so it’s climbing fast. Still, the goal is 500,000,000, so we’ve got quite a ways to go before we reach the goal!
Thankfully, we’ve got a while to get to that number. The event begins today, April 16th, and will continue on through the rest of the month, ending on April 30th. That should be plenty of time to get half a billion Skaven, Rotblood, and Beastmen that gets in the way of the community.
Grab your friends and get out there and slaughter some monsters! The community depends on it!
