It’s indeed Gamescom. You should know what that means. All that’s been added to YouTube are new game footage all over. One of the really big ones making rounds online is Valor Mortis. Thirty-three full minutes of gameplay footage have been uploaded, and honestly? This game looks kind of crazy.

The video was posted on Twitter by shinobi602, the very inner circle who really knows what is up with the target void of games. And, well, reactions from the player base have been… rather positive, I’d say. They’re already claiming their purchase for day one after this.

So, what really is Valor Mortis? From what I can gather from the footage, it looks like a first-person action game smack in the middle of some serious dark fantasy meddling. The aesthetics gave me just as much Dishonored and Dark Souls vibe as ever I needed to somehow. Someone else gave the delightfully deep explanation that it actually felt like a tabletop RPG called Colonial Gothic; cool.

Shooting is basically sword fighting, some exploration, and a host of soul vibes that actually work. It’s a sword-wielding fight, and honestly, the first thing I heard asked was, “Can we two hand that sword? I wanna two hand it.” That’s the whole mood. We’ve all wanted to two hand it and just go crazy.

It kind of feels like it will be a game for detail-oriented players. Some folks already started complaining. Some noted in the comments about the frame rate, “Something doesn’t look right performance-wise… Is this 30fps? Something is bugging me.” That’s cool. Gamers can tell at once.

Then, the defenders jumped in, saying that the footage is probably from a pre-alpha build. So this is reaaally early footage, so some rough edges are to be expected. One comments bluntly, “It’s pre-alpha.” “Maybe the fact that it’s not done?” A fair comment-you can’t really judge a game too much when it’s still in the oven.

The hype, at least in another term, is real. Another said it was one of his highlights of Gamescom, and that’s saying a lot with all the traction Gamescom gets. And then the co-op talk blossomed immediately. Someone asked if it would have co-op like Elden Ring; that would be insane.” And honestly, yes: that would be insane to play with a friend.

Playtests are out already. Someone helpfully replied, “you can apply for it through Steam, which is really cool if you wanna jump in early,” then proceeded with “one of the better games shown at ONL for sure,” which is quite the compliment.

Then comparisons started going bonkers: another said it looked like a “Kcd2 Savage Mod,” which is super niche info for Kingdom Come: Deliverance enthusiasts. Someone else just abruptly chimed in with, “Dishonored ahh gameplay,” which pretty much describes it.

But just the overall vibe… hype. People wanna know. One player said, “Very curious about this first-person soulslike thing” and “I’ll keep my eye on this one.” That’s exactly what you want to hear when a brand-new IP puts out a massive gameplay video.

Early days for Valor Mortis indeed but a strong start at getting feet wet. Looks like the setting, fighting, and ambiance have been hitting home for quite a few spectators watching it at home. The fact that there is already so much discussion from just a single gameplay clip is a good sign.

We just don’t have a date yet, but hype, it is. When players already talk about day one purchases and co-op dreams from a pre-alpha footage drop, you know developers are onto something. Tag this one: this one can turn out special. At least, it’ll be a whole lot of fun swinging a big sword in the first person. And sometimes, that’s all that really matters.
