Update: The announcement stated that submissions to the #UbisoftPhotomodeContest had been closed, which stirred a hot reaction. The company thanked everyone for their participation and said the winners would be announced in the coming days. Of course, the real perpetrator lies within the replies, with some hype, some salty comments, and a whole lot of gamers begging for fixes and remasters. Very classic Ubisoft community behavior.
First off: Kudos to all the virtual photographers who really put their heart and soul into this. Zoyas | Virtual Photography had submitted some exquisite beauty shots of The Crew and put the images up with the contest hashtag just before the deadline. Eric Leon Allen, aka Milz_VP, gave a wholesome shoutout to the other participants, saying, “I have seen some really amazing shots.” Well, honestly, we should give gamers some appreciation for their creativity in photo modes; this is an art form.
But some are being sore: Cre8iv_Sparq was mad, saying they were never even notified about it despite being a member. Oof. God, and Ghost_Wolf_00 missed the deadline. Same, dude. Time zones are a cruel mistress. Speaking about deadlines, Zuber (undeadpixel_vp) pointed out that apparently, the contest closed at 21:00 CET, whereas Ubisoft shut it down at 19:16 CET. Could be suspicious. Eww, annoying.
It was at this point that the usual Ubisoft demand chaos ensued. Krush93067 hit them with your classic: “Assassin’s Creed Unity Remaster please 🙏,” because, let’s be honest, that game looks good to this day. Meanwhile, A RorschachTest was demanding news of the Splinter Cell remake, with Ronnie demanding updates on Avatar PSSR. So out of order, we are, yet that really is the Ubisoft fandom.
The real drama came from vivir_esmorir laying into Ubisoft for making photo mode too complicated in Shadows. “Can you just fix the damn ‘show UI’ in the shadows photo mode ??? what a way of complicating things 🤯,” began a thread full of agreement. Mario (FrameCaptureVP) and Caramel Thunder (muzz4life) agreed it wasn’t there at launch and is literally stopping them from playing. And somehow, despite this UI, Kassie Lewis actually managed to snap some pictures — just a proof of how determined gamers can get.
NorkDorf Entertainment stayed positive about the creativity shown but wondered who Ubisoft thought would really stand out. Good question: what does make a winning shot in a competition like this? Composition? Lighting? Pure meme energy? Soon, we will find out.
So the Ubisoft photo mode contest was full of highs and… let’s say heated moments. Now, we wait for the sentences. And maybe just maybe, an update on the UI for Shadows. A gamer can dream.
