Well, PlayStation dropped a new game all the sudden: Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Trees. What a gargantuan mouthful! Truly something gorgeous to look at. It’s a roguelike adventure game where you hack the hell out of enemies and foes around a lovely Village all protected by this gigantic Tree. The official PlayStation Tweet has issued the announcement that the game is out now, along with a link to check it out.
No however, it’s not all. Developers themselves have hinted at the existence of a FREE DEMO in their own reply. Anytime is a good time; right? I ask you; it’s always nice to try before purchase, especially with an indie game. The @playTOWA account stepped in to say “There’s a free demo too!” and gave a link. So yeah, you’ll get to taste a bit of this before committing.
Responses? Eh, all over the place as usual. Some are genuinely excited about it. @HwangSeong96 said, “I had never heard of this game before. It interests me, I’ll check it!” Cool, right? Then comes some pretty positive input from the other side: @pixelluma said, “Looks like a fun game! I might need to give it a try.””
Then all hell broke loose. The PlayStation antagonists soon came out in force. So many of them whined about Remote Play not working. @Thepr0totype1 was yelling, “WHOA WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT. 27 HOURS WITHOUT REMOTE PLAY WORKING GOOD JOB CHUMPS,” and really…’dude,’ it’s been a day and a half. “PSN settings are not available, what the f is going on?” asked @bricennial. So these technical issues pretty much were the main topic in the announcement of the game.
A weird thread came next when @just_fedup said, “Done with Sony while I have moved to PC gaming only. Apart from that, your exclusives are polluted by radical left ideology anyway,” to which @HunterSoles1 replied, “No one cares,” and well, that’s quite true. Why would people bring politics into gaming announcements? Let us enjoy the slashy tree game.
Visuals also grabbed some compliments! @LosTheDog said, “i like the fluidity !” and @CallBotCrypto amusingly compared it: “Looks like Zelda and Diablo had a generational child and named it Towa.” Which is probably a fitting description, come to think about it. The trailer shows colorful action RPG style with smooth combat so it makes sense.
In a tangent, @_khalifa01 begged PlayStation, “give West Africa its PlayStation region. We already have South Africa,” which is a valid point concerning regional access. And @darksouldream was tweeting in Spanish about regional pricing for Latin America with hashtags #NoAlDolarPSN, so we can say that the announcement made for every kind of conversation beyond just the game itself.
But what is wild is just how many people missed the game announcement because they’re outraged about Remote Play. DucklyTrillo started with, “Let’s try it with REMOTE PLAY!! Oh, it’s down since yesterday!!!” followed by “There’s not even an official announcement about it,” about the outage. Like, bruh, PlayStation is trying to shove a new game down our throats and we all are busy whining about connectivity issues.
The game looks like it could be loads of fun! Probably permadeath with randomness in roguelike adventures-not really addictive. Protecting a village sounds like tower defense with that title hinting about a few fantasy things with that whole ‘Sacred Tree’ thing. And as per @gochev, “It’s available on steam thank God…. This PlayStations…” So that’s good, meaning a multi-platform release.
The funniest thing is how greatly technical issues buried the actual announcement. Almost as if PlayStation had opted for the worst possible time to promote a game while their services are having issues. Timing is everything, I suppose. The game, however, is interesting enough to cut through that noise and grab some attention. “Man I have fallen for such games over realistic AAA shallow games,” said @abhinav450213; that’s a vibe. Sometimes, smaller games hit harder than the big ones.
Worth a mention: @ReviewGameDrops (which looks like an AI account?) replied, “This looks absolutely incredible, @PlayStation! So excited for Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree!” Either programmed enthusiasm or genuine, nowadays it’s hard to say with AIs.
So yeah, Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Trees is out now on PlayStation and supposedly Steam as well, and there’s a free demo option. Roguelike action-adventure with village protection mechanics and a huge tree. Meanwhile, Remote Play has been down for more than a day, and people are so mad about it. Typical Twitter gaming chaos. But hey, free demo means you can try it without spending money; definitely a W in my book.
