The Marvel rumor machine is again in action and this time it’s about our ever-so-friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Reliable source Daniel RPK reports that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will not be a part of the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ movie. But, wait a minute, no need to panic before such a thing is actually sure, as it is mentioned that he will have a massive role in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ instead and that’s the real big one.
The above-mentioned rumor is based on a tweet that has been the source of much excitement for gamers and Marvel fans. The tweet mentioned that Holland “is reportedly not in ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ as of now,” but he “is expected to have a huge role in ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’.” The mention of “as of now” gives everyone a chance to believe that a possible change might happen later.
Fans reactions in the comments section have not surprisingly been pretty much what one would expect from Marvel followers. The fans’ reactions show a wide variety of moods; for instance, one user stated his agreement by saying, “I knew he wasn’t in it. I’m so happy he will be in Secret Wars as that is the big one!” on the contrary another user raised his voice and accused someone else of lying, “Dude, he is definitely in Doomsday stop lying.” The thing is, where one stands is a matter of very heated debate.
Let’s see what happens – a good number of people among the replies are suggesting that even if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man does not join Doomsday, a Spider-Man might still be there. One user said “So Tom Holland’s Spider-Man isn’t in Doomsday. But Spider-Man could still be in Doomsday” along with the emoji that represents disbelief. This way of thinking has led to wild theories and speculations regarding the possible cameo appearances of Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield.
Besides, the net was flooded with comments on Andrew Garfield longing for the chance to shine. One comment was, “I hope Andrew gets it,” when responding to another user. The entire multiverse issue that was opened up by the movie No Way Home, really allowed for possibilities, didn’t it?
The most exciting thing is that currently, the comments have gone wild with theories about the new symbiote suit. “We need the symbiote arc going into a new spider man movie in Secret Wars it’s something that HAS to happen!” was the exclamation of one person using some angry emojis to reinforce his argument. And another simply announced, “Where he prob will get the symbiote suit” with reference to Secret Wars. So, is the Venom arc on the way?
There is a lot of uncertainty in the comments about the order of the movies releasing next, and this confusion is reflected in a joke by one person asking, “ATP which one is coming out first lol” – which is totally relatable. The Marvel timeline is so intertwined that even new and loyal followers find it pretty challenging to keep up with it.
At the same time, there are some people who have based on the absence of some characters have already dismissed Doomsday as boring. A user, very frustrated, went to the comments section to express his/her long hardships and wrote about all the missing heroes: “No Spider-Man, no Wanda, no Guardians, no Wong, no Doctor Strange, no Hulk, no Captain Marvel, no Hawkeye, no War Machine, Iron Man is dead, Black Widow is dead. NOT the same Avengers from Infinity War and Endgame.” Oops, many of the characters are missing.
On the contrary, others quite the opposite argued that it is most likely that we will see Wong, Strange, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, War Machine, plus “adding a lot of X-Men, Toby as Spider-Man and Doom” – so perhaps Doomsday will not be as empty as many think?
The trust issue with the leaks of Daniel RPK is quite clear from people’s comments, some trusting and others not. In fact, many are taking the report as it is, while one user was very skeptical: “I don’t believe in what DanielRPK says I’m not falling for that crap.” And another simply stated, “We already knew he wasn’t in Doomsday” which showed that for all of them this was clearly a non-news.
Moreover, it is kind of hilarious to see people pointing out the inconsistency that is happening in the case of lesser characters being included in the plot while Spider-Man has been totally ignored. One such person said, “It just feels funny because Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts are not very well-known characters and that’s where the tease comes from. But Marvel’s biggest superhero Spider-Man gets no tease. I just thought that was funny.”
The entire scenario is causing the audience to re-consider the timeline and what could happen to Spider-Man between now and the release of these Avengers films. One comment predicted, “It may have something to do with what happens to Spidey during the events of Brand New Day” – a reference to the comic story arc where Peter Parker makes a deal with Mephisto that erases his marriage from existence. Pretty grim stuff.
At the end of the day, this whole thing is still nothing but a rumor and speculation until Marvel comes up with an official announcement. But the responses show how much people love these characters and the direction of their stories. Whether Tom Holland shows up in Doomsday or saves his big moment for Secret Wars, the gamers and Marvel fans will certainly keep a close eye on how everything unfolds. The Spider-Man saga continues, as always.
