NintendoAmerica’s Twitter handle initially posted, “Time to pose for the perfect photo! #MarioKartWorld” with a link to the glorious snap of Toad. Toad is essentially exuding main character energy. And that was just the prelude to the reply madness. From “BRO IS FLOATING??!” to “Toad’s got that ‘main character’ energy,” the Internet could seriously not take this fungal king-following.
The disgruntled vibe, however, was made apparent by a few gamers. They took this as an opportunity to air their reservations about Mario Kart World. One user straight up said, “Game’s dead, Ninty. Move on,” with another chiming in, “There’s nothing to play for in that game.” Ouch. Harsh. And then there were some who were whining about achievements or a PC port instead, because Switch exclusivity is now torture.
The meme lords kicked into gear from there. One compared real life to Mario Kart: “Someone always drops a banana just as you take the lead!” Bravo. Cut deep. Another simply said Toad was “puntable,” which… fair.

The one thing these mixed reactions could agree upon, however, was that Toad is iconic. Whether he’s awkwardly floating or being his adorable and shrill self, gamers simply cannot get enough of him. And, honestly? Neither can we.
