THQ Nordic’s entry onto the world stage is one of extreme cinema that has all gamers making a lot of noise over that very idea of taking three blockbuster titles to Gamescom 2025. Well, one of these is still a mystery, still cloaked in fog. They have very much gone ahead and called it the “Secret Game™” with an uppercase S and trademark sign; it surely must mean something wilder.
The two confirmed announcements are for Gothic 1 Remake and REANIMAL, but the third one blows the imagination, and the whole web-sphere is mad trying to find out what it might even be.
Alright, let us first examine what we can speak about. The Gothic 1 Remake has been around for a time now and fans of this cult RPG have been (im)patiently waiting for an update all along. The original had smooth deep world-building, with so much of it, and punishing difficulty.So, a modern remake can really hit big if done right. Now we have REANIMAL, but really, there’s hardly anything about it. The description on Steam is virtually blank, and people are crying out for any detail.
However, really, the mystery of the third game holds sway. THQ Nordic sure likes to keep people on their toes, and with this one, they might just have ripped the community into a thousand pieces with the wildest of theories. Some gamers think it’s going to be SpongeBob (because of the green question mark on the teaser image that supposedly matches SpongeBob’s color scheme). Others are holding out hope for the announcement of Darksiders 4, Kingdoms of Amalur 2, or even the resurrection of Timesplitters.
Replies to THQ Nordic’s tweet have been an insane mix of hype, memes, and fairly desperate pleading. One person even went full on with, “ARES GRANT ME DARKSIDERS NEWS AND MY LIFE IS YOURS.” Which kind of sums up everything. Others joked about it being “OFFROAD Game,” with a seemingly random truck emoji attached. And then you’ve got your SpongeBob theorists totally convinced that green treasure chest in the image is the big giveaway.
Meanwhile, another crowd keeps pestering about what the hell is going down with games they’re already waiting on. “Can we FINALLY get a release date for Gothic Remake?! Been waiting preordered more than a year at this point,” one disgruntled fan tweeted. Fair.
What’s the deal with this secret project? THQ Nordic is mum, and so we’ll all have to hold our breath until the reveal at Gamescom 2025. That means a whole year of speculating, leaking, and mostly fake rumors.
