The news went down yesterday, and the whole community is buzzing with reactions, memes, and good vibes (with some grumbles as expected from Fortnite Twitter).
Featuring The Weeknd’s very smooth vocal performance, with Carti chiming in with the occasional irreverent interjection, the emote earned the adoration of the entire community when it first appeared in the Item Shop. Now, it makes a return with a new lure: buy it from the web store and get an exclusive backbling as a bonus. Oh, so keep your locker dripping with some new swag; the official tweet off Epic Games‘ partner account barely gave any description as to what the backbling looks like, so all the speculation will now be over how smooth and stylish it is-to-wit, The Weeknd style, with perhaps a little salute to his After Hours era.
The general reaction diverged from the usual reactions, some on the hype from the start by @SolChap0, “Carti’s back, let’s get it,” whereas some others were… well… unimpressed. @cyn_reaper bluntly stated, “This season is so horrible lmao,” proving that no matter what Epic decides to do, there’ll be criticism. Then came the HARD ones, with @cookiekidonfir1 chiming in with opinions about how the game needs a new map because “everyone have move to roblox.” Harsh, but hey-that’s everyone’s opinion, much like emotes are.
One of the funniest threads got started from the opinions regarding Playboi Carti’s contribution to the emote. @LukeyWolf_ clapped back at a leaked account with, “Good, his part was fucking awful,” setting off a back and-forth about whether Carti saved the track or just plain hurt it. Oh, good old-fashioned gamer conversation. Now these emotes do actually move your character when performing the animation, but there’s a slight glitch; as pointed out by @tgraybird,” They still haven’t fixed it, the emote is traversal but it doesn’t have the traversal tag.” A small thing, but it goes to show how everything matters to a Fortnite player.
Should you get it? Fun really says it all, but if you’re a fan of The Weeknd or Carti or just interested in collecting some rare cosmetics, then this is a no-brainer, and the bonus backbling makes it even more worth buying from the web store than just hoping for it to return on the in-game shop. Just, please, don’t expect a crowd cheering on it-welcome to Fortnite where absolute chaos is the only constant.
