Well, Naughty Dog lovers, hang on tight as Sony has dropped the bomb that The Last of Us Complete Bundle is out officially, featuring Part I and Part II Remastered for PS5. So, yes, the promise that Joel will keep his word with steel comes true.
What about this bundle? Now, if you missed out on one of the most emotionally wrenching and affecting stories of all time (how??), here is your chance to dive in with both fully polished next-gen versions. Last year, Part I got its shine-up; now Part II can get its shine, too, with all of the PS5 fancy extras-fast loading, haptic feedback, and graphics so vivid; one might feel every tear that Ellie shed.
The journey of Ellie is the spirit of this whole thing. The PlayStation Tweet teases Joel’s promise (that is still hitting us hard); really, playing both games in the same sitting will feel very different. The ending of the first one? That is just cruel. The revenge path of Part II? That is so cruel. But one can now have the full story run in one go, further ushered in by the tech upgrades that will make the tears even crisper.
Now let’s talk about that Part II remaster. It is not just a resolution bump-new content is actually being discussed. Cut scenes may be included, maybe some behind-the-scenes treats, or aids for the impatient gamers who may be turning into cellphone walkthroughs. And maybe that multiplayer mode actually does see daylight. Okay, maybe not that last one, but you can always hope.
It’s also odd timing because the HBO adaptation for the show just finished its first season, bringing in a whole new fan generation that has yet to even lay a finger on the game. With that bundle, it’s a nice opportunity for these new fans to check out the origins (and why they’re all still emotionally healing). The OGs? Well, it offers a chance to play these masterpieces the smoothest way possible and maybe catch some details they missed in the very first run.
Now, here’s the real question; if you think you’ve got to buy it while owning both games, I’d say yes, more thought has to be put into it. If you are one of those kinds looking for the definitive experience, the consideration for the upgrade is going to set in. If you can do with your PS4 copies, just track the sales. Either way, the bundle is a great buy for the new guys, and a perfect excuse for the goods to relive the pain.
Joel’s promise thus gone, and Sony has, by giving us the chance to experience Ellie’s tale in all its splendor, made theirs. Get your trays of tissues ready, power up the PS5, and get prepped to be wrecked all over again.
And hey, post-Part II finale cries? You know where to find us.
