Survival Kids, friends who enjoy survival games: brace yourselves because the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to rock your world. Yep, it’s high time. No more, “maybe someday,” or rumors. It’s happening, people. If these new survival games are what you have been waiting for, get ready to obsess over your next survival adventure with some new flesh underneath it.
The announcement recently exploded on social media. The official tweet confirms that the title will be exclusive to the upcoming Nintendo Switch. There isn’t any specific date of release for it, but the very fact that they are announcing it is enough for the hype train to be set in motion. All-to-be-honest, that cannot be a better moment to do so. Rumor says that the hardware of that next Switch has retained some serious upgrades, so Survival Kids just might be one of those games that show-off what the console could do.
Those who are not familiar with Survival Kids might need to get reintroduced to it: it was a really good, old-fashioned adventure survival game that first came out on the Game Boy Color a long time ago. You might well find yourself rotting away on some island creating tools, collecting food, and ensuring that something does not eat you in this jungle. It was way ahead of its time; how few video games made survival and RPG elements fuse in such a way before. And now? It is definitely going to get a new paint job (and probably tons of new features) for the Switch 2.
The tweet itself was pretty straightforward just a hype announcement with a link to what we assume is a teaser or official page. But, the real question is… where’s the trailer? Where’s the gameplay? Replies are already flooding fans (well, they would be, had there any-zero replies so far? Kind of odd). Normally you’d expect some “will this just be a remaster or a full remake-“, “please don’t mess this up,” but…sigh. Silence has ensued. Maybe everyone’s too busy screaming into their pillows to type.
Yet it might not be replies that people are talking about. Over in the forums and Discord servers, they are already speculating: will it keep the pixel-art style? Multiplayer? Co-op survival? Permadeath? The original was punishing in the best way, so let’s hope the new version doesn’t hold your hand too much.
Now, that exclusive deal for Switch 2- that’s going to be bold; they are already whetting the appetites of future console gamers before any even see it in public. If this is any indicator to what is coming in the future, then Switch 2 should have a killer launch lineup right out of the gate. Of course, it also means those that like to play on PC or any other console are out of luck, unless somehow, Nintendo decides to port it later (and, let’s face it, they probably will).
Naturally, we are waiting now. And refreshing Twitter every five minutes to see what updates come through. Of course, reliving the experience of the original Survival Kids might be an option for that nostalgia factor as well. But one thing is pretty clear: if this game is at all true to the legacy, it could be one of the must-plays for all Switch 2 holders once it finally arrives.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go make a shelter out of old Game Boy cartridges. Just in case.
