Street Fighter 6 users are being treated to a delightful surprise courtesy of Capcom, as the legendary character Chun-Li is going to join the Fatal Fury universe with special crossover colors. The non-playable character will be making her way into the new Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and in recognition of this huge crossover event, Capcom will be giving away a mix of EX colors for Chun-Li and Ken’s Outfit 1 starting from November 5 at 12 am PST.
The Street Fighter Twitter account has made the official announcement regarding this. The collaboration between the two game developers, Capcom, and SNK, is still on going. The free colors will be the trailer colors for the famous Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, that is why they are easy to recognize for fighting game fans who are monitoring the upcoming SNK title.
The community reaction has been … well, let’s just say it’s typical fighting game community stuff. While some players are absolutely loving the free content, others are demanding more. One user named Adrian simply responded with “Thank you 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥” which pretty much sums up the excitement from the more positive side of the fanbase.
However, you have players like DubC, who shared “Thank you. We were complaining when we got nothing for fighting ground at all. Thanks for at least giving something. Provide even more detailed work and we’ll pay happily to support.” So, it seems that the fighting game community is quite confusing at times, as players say free stuff is cool but demand MORE free stuff? Or perhaps they are willing to pay for better stuff?
Then there is Mason who just dropped “holy goat color” which sounds positive but I’m not completely sure what that means? Maybe it’s some new FGC slang that I’m not updated with yet. The younger generation with their terminology!
However, the most captivating part is how divided the responses are. Some players are calling Capcom “lazy” for merely giving colors instead of full costumes. User n1n0dan did not mince words and said “Tired of all the BS colors no new skins, already milking the other half of the skin set. super lame.” Ouch! That really hurt, didn’t it?
But then you have SegGel2009 who is, in fact, happy about it, saying, “Thank you for bringing their Color 4s from COTW. I use Ken’s whenever I mess with him and I’m glad it’s finally in SF6.” So not everyone dislikes the concept of free colors—a portion of the community actually likes the specific references to the Fatal Fury character’s color and appreciates them.
The whole color issue has given rise to another topic in the comments, with different people asking for a complete color edit mode in Street Fighter 6. One of the users, Falconsffs, said, “Give us free colors edit mode, like in all other fighting games,” which prompted others to start hashtags like #ColorEditMode4SF6. So, it has become quite a thing now.
At the same time, there are gamers wanting the opposite, entirely different crossovers. TheNixUniverse is campaigning for Jon Talbain in City of the Wolves “for reasons that I don’t really have to explain,” which, fair enough, Darkstalkers characters would be dope in any game, tbh. Moreover, there is GalaxySurf16775 who is requesting Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue for both Street Fighter and KoF, which honestly would be sick.
The timing of this announcement is also interesting as it comes right after the release of Halloween costumes. Pigboypate remarked, “I suppose I can overlook the fact that they aren’t costumes because of the Halloween costumes we got this year. Oh,” indicating that Capcom is trying to distribute its content drops so that players remain engaged through different seasons.
Actually, what’s really crazy is that some players are comparing the color system of Street Fighter 6 with that of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. DRKtoss, for instance, posted screenshots featuring COTW’s extensive color customization options alongside the hashtag #ColorEditMode4SF6. It appears they are trying to pressure Capcom by shaming them into granting the players more freedom in character customization, which … might even work?
The whole issue points to the fact that fighting game players have become increasingly vocal about customization options in recent years. In the past, we were satisfied with just a few palette swaps, but now everyone is asking for full color editors, ample costume choices, and cross-game collaborations. A totally different world out there!
Not to mention the actual crossover aspect—Chun-Li’s appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves does represent a major milestone in the history of fighting games. The Capcom vs. SNK rivalry has been going on for decades, and it is always wonderful to watch these iconic characters mingle in the others’ games. It is like a PlayStation and Xbox collaboration.
