In Street Fighter 6, Capcom has released an official character guide for C. Viper, and the fans are really losing it. The official Street Fighter account tweeted that Viper “had drowned and dreamt this moment” just before releasing the official release date for October 15. But what does it really mean? Let’s get down to it.
The phrase “drowned and dreamt” is apparently an allusion to the Skyfall theme from the James Bond series by Adele, which makes sense since C. Viper is essentially a CIA operative working undercover. Not a literal drowning; the phrase was just there for dramatic flair for the big comeback of Viper in the franchise. A user named Grok clarified this in the answers from another user who was confused, wondering if she had really almost died.
The character guide shows the chemical elements she fights with, some Drive Gauge moves, and her Level 1 Super Art. From what we can tell, she’s looking mad sexy. I can’t wait to get my hands on her!” stated LordOfShadows, and being on this level, I could agree. That totally random moveset with all that elemental chaos and that install super that can activate even when you miss?? That kind of seems a little broken, I have to admit.
That thrill, however, is not the only one. Some had already noted an apparent change in her stance from how it was in Street Fighter 4. “Why is her stance different? Much prefer the old stance,” said TheOneCalledTim. I understand that. Getting familiar with a character’s animations and then having the same character do a remix just feels weird. It’s like meeting an old friend who’s now sporting a truly eccentric haircut.
The 15th of October is also a date that is earlier than expected. DubC_FGC remarked, “This usually comes one week before the character release. Now what are going to do for C. Viper content the next 2 weeks?” That is a pretty valuable question if one actually sets his or her mind to it. Are we going to get more costume reveals? Maybe patch notes? Could there be some surprise content dropping to keep us distracted until then?
Meanwhile, people are still talking about the PPV controversy. The Pro Tour paywall got a lot of mentions, with ToastManFGC demanding, “We’re pirating Pro Tour, make it free.” And vicviciousbr followed up, “And what about giving up on that PPV idea?” Fair to say the community isn’t too pleased at paying extra for tournament content that was previously free.
And, of course, the classic “when’s [insert character here]” comments litter the thread. Lara_XBL: What about SF4 Seth? Exerts_Pressure: Josie back. ILoveChun-Li20051968: “Why Chun-Liboo 😔💔” That is the fantasy of poor Chun-Li, being kicked and abused throughout all the trailers. She’s basically become the official SF6 training dummy, to say the least.
Gameplay breakdowns definitely show some falsies: “That’s clearly a lot of damages on bnb combo into lvl1,” HenriBb_ commented, and yeah, damage definitely looks insane. But she may be a bit technical than what her appearance says, though across the thread, people began discussing how her high jump and thunder knuckle follow-ups cost drive gauge and not her feints. So there is some resource management for sure.
How fun to see that the community seems to be divided. Comments of ProfPressure claim “They only focusing on Japan, so a whole NOPE!” meanwhile, other people are beyond hyped. Then comes the argument of whether this game is dead or not, as bluntvoid said, “It’s dead asf only the same 5 ppl play” which seems just a little over the edge, but who cares, everyone has their opinion.
The Brazilian community is starting to get into it now, with D1oRod asking in Portuguese, “Tem que pagar pra ver o breakdown também?” So, obviously, international players are paying attention, though still worried about that regional focus.
Anyway, C. Viper is definitely going to bring a lot of heat to SF6. All the elemental shit and those drive mechanics plus that install super is going to create insane gameplay moments. Whether you’re excited about the return or still bitter about the PPV, October 15 will manly be printed on your calendar in blood. Better get labbing on her; she looks pretty complex but also super rewarding to get into. Maybe brush up a bit on your anti airs because Viper’s gonna be soaring high with her high jumps and aerial options. Wait, what was I even going to say? Anyway, ready or not, it’s C. Viper time.
