Just a few days ago, Bethesda provided a Halloween-themed skin pack free of charge for Starfield, but the response from the community was more than just spooky fun. The modder Captain-Ultima has developed the Halloween Skin Pack of CombaTech, which mainly consists of festive gun skins that will put the holiday mood into the game. But the community was not happy with the gameβs post-launch service and the future content.
What has the new Creation actually given away? As a free pack, players can not only make their CombaTech guns the eeriest with the colors of Halloween like orange and black but also with other festive shades. The Starfield Twitter account announced this in their usual upbeat tone, but gamers quickly turned the topic to the overdue -867574667- if unavoidable, huge DLC and game updates rather than just cosmetic extras.
The player reaction was rather harsh… or I can say it was not a good one at all. Marcus (@mohwarfighterx) summed up the feelings of the majority: βI have notifications for every post because Iβm eagerly waiting for a new DLC and an update; however, you guys only keep posting creations.” Ouch! This statement carries the same sound as the sentiment in hundreds of replies, where one person is asking when the time will be that proper expansions or huge content updates are coming.
The grappling with this issue has also been the time when the performance issues, which have long troubled some players, came back again. Segma (@JuanBarfield1) reported still experiencing crashes on Xbox Series S. One of these crashes occurs during the pilot simulation. “All I want is to create ships ππππ” they exclaimed and continued to say how the technical problems are still keeping what many gamers consider to be the strongest point of the game away from them.
There were times when the number of players was the hot topic. Mike Mills (@MikeMillz34) was very honest when he said, “It is extremely boring and monotonous, I would not recommend it. There is a reason why this game has even fewer players than Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Oblivion.” However, another person tried to be neutral by saying that the game is “very much playable” and that it is now mostly stable.
What has shocked people even more is the fact that the skin pack release has sparked a major worry about the game’s future direction. Some comments speculated whether Halloween would even be a part of Starfield’s Timeline, several centuries after Earth’s destruction. Steven R Ellison (@S_R_Ellison) said: “Halloween was there after the destruction of the Earth and the move to other stars?”
Furthermore, the Creation Club aspect was mentioned in the negative feedback, as a large number of users accused Bethesda of leaning on community creations instead of developing substantial first-party content. Neockwon (@N3OCK1) was very straightforward: “Why not just make a DLC when they can sell the work of others.” It is worth noting, however, that this particular skin pack is provided at no cost.
For some players, their annoyance has taken on a creative form. Obi-Juan (@ObiJuansome) simply stated: “RELEASE THE ARMADA” – whatever that might signify. T-REXX3000 (@gelboustany) then, of course, mentioned the PS5 issue once again.
The compatibility of achievements was brought up by L3thal Euskal (@L3thal_Euskal), who was wondering if using these creations would result in the loss of achievements. The inquiry, while being very much, is the valid concern of completionists and is yet to be clarified by Bethesda.
From all that has been said above, one thing that is certain is that the Starfield community is looking forward to more substantial content. The Halloween skins are an extra, but players are still expecting the big expansions and updates that come with Bethesda’s games. As MAJ_Starman pointed out, in comparison to the previous Bethesda single-player titles, the post-release support has been regarded as “really lacking in terms of DLCs and new features.”
Even the nice comments were based on conditions. Luminescent Dream Creations remarked that ” at least itβs free..”, but the ellipsis following that sentence indicates that even this praise is somehow reluctant.
The main query that occupies all these discussions is when we can look forward to either Shattered Space or any other massive DLC. Quite a number of users directly asked about the expansion’s launch, with NICK 3000 saying “isn’t it time for a big update and a DLC? ππ” The rocket emoji does not really hide the impatience behind that question.
So what does the situation look like for Starfield? The game that promised the universe is only providing new cosmetic skins while the players are waiting for the enormous space adventures they wanted.
