Square Enix released this and some players immediately welded their favorite photo modes into a Black Friday moment. The tweet was short and sweet: “Show us your BEST wallpaper-worthy screenshots from any Square Enix game.” And the community absolutely delivered.
The original tweet first: Square Enix had vaguely whispered animated wallpaper possibilities, which truly would be extraordinarily cool. But the company for now just really wanted static images. And the response? Better be static showers of jaw-dropping images from Final Fantasy XVI, FF7 Rebirth, and Dragon Quest III HD, with some serious digs into Crystal Chronicles.
Caracal✨ led off with serene and calm shots of dawn over Ishgard and Dravanian Hinterlands, just proving that FFXIV landscape scenes are, in a way, digital art galleries. Then with full confidence, Dada. dropped the bomb: “Si quieren que usen mis screenshots” (“Use my screenshots if you want”).
Matt AKA Matt went simple and sweet with a shot of Rosaria from FFXVI when Neo Kazama suddenly veered hard into I WANT CHRONO CROSS REMAKE!! territory. A classic Twitter detour. TONYX shot down the commentary with “parche para ff 16 en xbox series x esta borroso” (translation: “FF16 on Xbox Series X is blurry, fix it”). Priorities people.
The_One_True_Clive_Rosfield (quite an apt user name) nailed cinematic shots of two locations in FFXVI: Kanver and Kingsfall. Engr.Kamelaly? Oh boy, the perfect pitch for an animated wallpaper of Celis Crystal Chronicles festival scenes without any diary text dialed in. Square Enix, if you could?
And the chaos began immediately at the start. Mr. Woodsmake decided to, uh, “expose these sodomy loving groomers and chesters” in response to Magic Shuriken. Yeah, we’re not even going to go there…
The rest were just brilliant. Maria’s top picks, Ninjagirlsakura1’s Kingdom Hearts Sokai moment, UnchainedStar’s starlit reunions—everyone brought their A-game and Emperor Potara pledged to scour their archives after it’s “too hot to get the computer out.” Relatable.
What does this mean? Well, look-wise, they are a feast for the eyes of most, and gamers have eyes to grab the perfect shot. Whether they are gritty landscapes of FFXVI or mythril mines of FFVII Rebirth and delightful shots of Dragon Quest, those screenshots glisten with the greatest artistry of all-time: some art the gamers create themselves.
