Sony is once again moving forward with a new model of the PlayStation 5; however, this time the focus appears to be on the Digital Edition. A digital-only PS5 version was leaked this week, together with it, came a list of peculiar modifications. Strangely, the most notable change, the storage reduction, is overshadowed by the price increase. The unpaid changes storage now has been reduced from 1TB to 825GB, and to add to that, the leaked price is 499€. That price, combined with the reduced storage, reminds me of the good old “Lets charge the same for less” business scheme.

At the moment it seems like Europe is the only region targeted for the release of this model, as Sony has not commented or given a date for the release of the console in any other region. As you shoot this first region in the EU, it makes sense based on the assumption of the leak, but in my opinion, the rationale behind the model is the least that makes sense. I am in agreement with the rationale that this model exists to keep prices from surging, but these days it is common to have sellers provide less for the same price, which as a consequence, makes complete sense for the lack of trust. At least the price isn’t higher, right?

Such issues have taken the forefront in online gaming communities. One said, “Just release Ps6 at this point,” and truthfully, I think the same. Another of the many things this gaming community has to be offered, like the games storage decrease properly the most questionable part of this, because in 2025 who does the decrease of storage? Like in the gaming world, the products are constantly getting bigger and not smaller. It was also commented that it was smarter to grab this and get an ssd on sale than for the console and more storage to pay more later on, so there is that.
