Sony has introduced this DualSense controller with a special treat named the Icon Blue Special Edition, and the internet is presently abuzz with hype. It sports a lovely blue shade that pays tribute to the blue that PlayStation is so fond of, while exhibiting a design at the rear that spells out in Japanese Katakana, “PureisutΔshon” (PlayStation). Now that these designs attract eyeballs, the community is split: some players are horrified by the gang’s new appearance, while others totally hate that the so-called fixes are just old issues with a new paint job.
So what’s all the fuss about with this new controller?? Online rumors are that the DualSense wireless controller β Icon Blue Special Edition will hit stores next October 20 in the U.S. and Canada, and on October 28 in Mexico and Chile. It’s set to go for $84.99 USD, $109.99 CAD, $1,899 MXN, and $93,490 CLP. And here’s the kicker β it’s apparently a Walmart exclusive in these regions, both in physical stores and on Walmart’s official website. That’s right, if you want this specific blue beauty, you gotta go through Walmart.
The official description by Sony is poetic to say the least. “From the moment the console powers on and the DualSense controller lights up, that signature blue glow signals the start of something special. It’s the spark that draws you into new worlds and immersive gameplay. Inspired by PlayStation’s iconic shades of blue, this design captures the feeling of anticipation and wonder every time you pick up the controller.” Sounds pretty dope, right? But not everyone’s buying the hype.
Then it was mayhem in the comment section, with players sharing views from every corner. Some could not get enough of the color. User @samorips5 simply stated, “It’s beautiful π” and @noobsmokes commented “That shit look amazing i want a blue ps5 now.” Others were already tossing ideas around as to what colors should follow; @FireeTarz suggested “They need Green, Yellow, and Red versions,” whereas @CRSMARYLAND felt “They should old school and do translucent colors like PS1 & PS2.” And that would actually be fucking sick, ngl.
Then, it got messy. A whole cluster of international gamers were left dismayed by the limited release. @kjngamer said, “No UK π‘π” and @VanBorg wanted to know “Why no Europe!!π€·βοΈπ€·βοΈ.” A German user, @soul__hunter666, pleaded, “Somebody in the US could send this over to me in germany please. ππ»” That frustration stemming from regional restrictions is totally justified when one sees something one desires yet can’t actually ever lay one’s hands on.
And then other passed-the-buck disputes that darn just won’t fade away. One user, @healy_major, went full steam ahead, ranting: “Good lord. The most pathetic fanboy marketing campaign I’ve ever seen. So now you just get stick drift in the gorgeous hue of PlayStation blue. Still no mention of Hall Effect stick technology. Just the same old shit, different color for $85, no 3rd party options. I’m good.” He was not done yet. In another comment: “I’ve got two dualsense controllers sitting on my desk in front of my PC that are absolutely worthless. Both of them have stick drift. Sony is still selling the most expensive game controller with no new stick tech in it.”
Oof, real talk! The stick drift has been a controversial issue for DualSense owners since the start of PS5, and it seems that players are tired of paying a premium price for a controller that may develop worries down the line. The calls for Hall Effect sticks form a deafening chorus-completely or almost unnoticeable to drift-but Sony is yet to answer.
Wait what was I saying? Oh right, the colors. Some players were wondering about other special editions too. @RolandEstrada78 mentioned “Still waiting for those crystal controllers” and @canOVOYMCMB asked for “New Dualsense Edge colors would be nice too.” It’s clear that while the blue looks nice, the community wants more options and better reliability.
Well, this one is still annoying me. What the hell is up with Chile but not Europe? That just seems so random. @tiago_mullerr and @jeancnunes_ were having a discussion in Portuguese about how they don’t understand Sony’s release strategy, with one saying, “I don’t understand Sony π₯ the gow controller didn’t appear here either.” It’s so irritating when companies do these regional exclusives that just completely shut out whole continents.
In the end, that blue DualSense is like a showpiece. Clean color, Japanese text, and probably looking sweet beside a PS5. Still, the hype is squashed by pattern concerns and availability. Players want controllers that stay for more than a few months, not pretty ones that are gonna exhibit stick drift. Then, they want to be able to buy special editions once they’re announced, wherever they live.
So yeah, the Icon Blue Special Edition will hit selected regions fairly soon. It looks lovely in pictures, but worth the $85 price tag β especially with the stick drift concerns β is gonna be a decision each gamer has to make for themselves. Maybe Sony will get on those hardware issues in later revisions, but for now, it’s the same internals with a classy blue shell. Pretty but possibly problematic, which pretty much sums up a lot of gaming hardware these days if we’re being honest.
