Recently, Rematch dropped on PS5 by Sloclap, showering your consoles with frantic arcade-style footie action. It somehow technically ensures absurd gameplay for absurd fun, akin to Rocket League but with littler fellows running and pulling off insane soccer moves. And, yes, Rocket-League-comparisons started pouring in, including an immediate one from the other player: Half Man, Half Amazing: But is it just a clean-up from Rocket League, or does it offer something new?
Well, the game is out NOW, and there is no waiting or pre-ordering. However, there’s a catch: the price. Some players, like SaiyanPride45, are casting a Cosmopolitan half-step sideways glare at the $50 price tag, especially given its absence in PlayStation Plus Extra. “How is this not in Extra? I’m not paying for this game lmao,” they tweeted. Ouch. Meanwhile, Xbox players are throwing shade with, “Enjoy it in Game Pass,” from Cactuous, as classic console-war fuel.
What about the fierce competition? Mixed reactions and mostly favorable. Glitchy Soul finds it an awesome game for all the glitches, while JC000 is screaming that “it’s only gonna get better with time.” Or on the opposing front, Dead_Baby69 said: “I hate football but love arcade football games, and this looks dope.” So if arcade sport kind of fun that values chaos over physics is something you vibe with, you may have found your jam.
Then you have the opposites. Dean2__ went on to call it a “mobile phone game” while bragging about playing Donkey Kong on Switch 2. Then InfamousInsania dropped in, “Way too gay,” and walked away. Wonderful inputs, fellas. Really constructive.
Now enter the price discussion again. IV619 called PlayStation scammers for charging $30 (wait, wasn’t it $50?) and for making us pay for online play. Meanwhile, emf_pachu thinks it should at least be in PS Extra. Then you have your physical edition guys. Shamrokh00 just asked, “Where is the physical copy?” with a crying heart emoji. Crossplay is also being actively requested, with Forliings and Nuevo33 wondering why this even isn’t a thing yet. Then the trophies? Apparently bugged, so those completionists might want to hold off on this until a patch comes in.
Rematch has charm. It’s one of those games where you either love it or you hate it. Arcade-style sports with a twist? Tick it for you. FIFA-level realism? Free to play? Eh, maybe wait for a sale, or just play Rocket League again. Somehow, the loud and sudden arrival of Rematch by Sloclap has already started stirring some pots. Game on.
