So the day has finally arrived. Silent Hill f, the latest entry in this classic horror series, has been released for PlayStation 5. The official PlayStation account heralded the occasion with a short, eerie message: “Face your friends, family, and fears.” And I’m sure many would agree that that about sums it up, really. The question that has consumed everyone for years has so far been: Well, after all this waiting and hoping, does it really deserve that title?
Player reception has been mixed since very early on. Things, so to speak, split some players in two fabulous and very different camps as if a thick fog had just rolled in. Those who absolutely adore it are like: mtzslivegaming is all caught in it, going ahead and tweeting “Very good game, playing now.” with the #silenthill tag. Great sign! Then there’s alexguzmangon, who sounds perhaps even more hyped: “Just got it today…it’s amazing…graphics super and story great. Big recomendation.” See that? That is an actual typo, but the excitement is 100% real! And then there’s PopTartz42069 who basically said: “Loving it so far!!” Sometimes that’s literally all you have to say.
And then there are those on the other side of the fence. And then they kill… sort of. The biggest one, making the rounds, and is just an odd one for a complaint to be lodged against it-make it stutters on PS5 Pro. Multiple people report having issues. SilentHomeRide was straight to the point: “What’s with the stutters on ps5 pro?” And they weren’t alone. Then, ItchyButRash was concerned: “Is there a day one patch to fix the pro version? I don’t want to waste $70.” Oof. Good concern to have for a brand new $70 game. Luckily, one player, jaybirdie1, might have saved you all, “remember to turn off 120hz refresh rate in PS5 Pro setting’s, or it will stutter.” So, if you’re on the Pro and it’s acting up, give that a try before rage-quitting.
And of course… there’s skepticism. Some players simply aren’t sure this is a real Silent Hill game. laze91 dropped another brutal one-liner: “Silent Hill in name alone.” Damn. That’s cold. It makes you wonder what they were expecting versus what they got. Is it too different? Not scary enough? Meanwhile, another comment from astemu was all over the place, going “diying light the beast is 999999 better.” Like, okay fine, cool story bro, but we’re talking about Silent Hill here? Wait, what was I saying. Oh right, the comparisons are inevitable, but that one came out of nowhere.
The conversation turned once again into the usual fan wishes. TitoGamerQC is still holding out hope, tweeting, “Still hoping for a remake of the first Silent Hill.” And you know what? Same. That started it all. Then _The_Real_Jason appeared, correcting them, saying, “Bloober the people who made the sh2 remake already said they’re making it.” So hey, maybe that classic remake is still coming for the purists.
It’s also fun to see little community moments. Like, someone named HarleyX_X_ replied in Spanish: “Me regalan una copia no tengo dinero y quiero jugarlo :(” which just translates to “Can you gift me a copy I don’t have money and I want to play it :(” Aww, man. We’ve all been there; a new game in hand, but the wallet just said no. The struggle is real.
So where does that leave us? Silent Hill f is out; it’s scaring some people, frustrating others with the technical hiccups on the Pro, and leaving a few old-timers feeling a little chilly. Not by any means a unanimous win, but hell, people are talking and playing again, which the series desperately needed. The major take from all this: If you have a vanilla PS5, you might be in for a treat. If you’re on the Pro, maybe wait a day or two for that patch to smooth things out. Either way, the fog has settled, and Silent Hill is back. Whether this is a triumphant return or just a fleeting visit… well, that’s your decision. Time to face those fears, I guess.
