Konami has just made a huge announcement that will delight Xbox players. The widely anticipated remake of the horror classic Silent Hill 2 is soon becoming available for Xbox Series X|S, buoyed by a promotional launch of 50% off for a limited period to express appreciation of the community’s trust. The news was first hinted at through an enigmatic tweet by Konami which read, “Some stories cannot be contained, and neither can the fog that heralds them.”

With this surprise launch, players will be able to plunge into the horror of the game at any time with no prior notice. The game’s release on Xbox signifies the end of a long period of exclusivity and thus, the new players can now go through the terrifying tale of James Sunderland in the foggy town. Moreover, the half-off deal makes it an irresistible offer for anyone who has been waiting for it.

It is no surprise that the community had a mixed reaction ranging from pure excitement to some frustrations. While the majority of Xbox players were ecstatic, a very vocal minority of PlayStation 5 Pro users combated the announcement with their own complaints.

The user ‘TheTravelTinker’ was quite straightforward and sent a tweet to Konami and Bloober Team saying, “Cool. Fix silent hill 2 issues on PS5 pro. A full year without an update is shockingly bad.” Similar to ‘BridgetSculpts’, the majority of the gamers who expressed their annoyance with the thread said, “How about you reward my patience of waiting for a ps5 pro patch fix.” It seems that the technical problems with the upgrade of Sony’s console are still a sore point for many, even when the game has been released on new platforms.

But then there was the immediate question regarding the sale event. Several gamers such as ‘The_Stebe’ and ‘DanielS21784635’ were quick to ask for clarification on one critical detail: “When does the 50% off expire?” Konami’s tweet alluded to the discount as a “limited-time” offer but did not specify an ending date that led to people getting a bit frantic to buy it before the price goes back up again. ‘Freaksofsaints1’ merely asked, “How long is the limitation? Can you give us a hint”.

In any case, the excitement of the Xbox crowd was very much visible. ‘Blinkfan180’ shared it perfectly with a shocked, “Wtf??? Yessssss. £28 too”. A different gamer, ‘DeCoteau92,’ was more straightforward in making their intention known: “I’ll be buying this one tonight.” To many, it was the day they had been looking forward to the most, finally getting the opportunity to play the iconic horror game on their choice of console.

But then again, it is never the case that a gaming announcement would be complete without a bit of rivalry between the different platforms. One user named ‘slashergamess’ could not resist making a sarcastic comment saying, “Bad move, shit box users can’t play good games.” Such remarks are sure to provoke retorts and one from ‘kiritosnightsky’ can be seen where he tries to point out the bait saying, “How long before you fools figure out that most of them are bait tweets from people who don’t even play Xbox?”

As the noise receded, new inquiries arose. Players such as ‘jayyyyysonn’ and ‘TheDaeronHill91’ were discussing the possibility of the “Born from a Wish” DLC being included or coming later and thus were inquiring about it. The original tweet did not mention anything about this so it is still an open question. ‘Unit731Denier’ was one of those who were hopeful for a physical edition and asked, “Any chance for a physical release?”

What about high availability on game pass? ‘Marcus12084’ even predicted this asking, “Me waiting for ‘Game Pass when?’ comment…”. Not long after, that exact feeling appeared in many ways because if a big game has come to Xbox, somebody is going to ask about it.

So, what is this version about? It’s similar to the complete, current-gen experience that was released on PS5 and PC. The main point for the Xbox players is that they are not getting an inferior port; they are getting the very same spine-chilling survival horror game just later than everyone else. The initial 50% discount offered by Konami is practically an apology for the delay. It is quite a significant gesture, to be honest, thus making a brand new AAA game very much more accessible right from the outset.

The timing is certainly not that simple. The decision to release the game now, without much publicity, and subtly makes one think of… Silent Hill. One could think of it as the mysterious fog that just appears and then disappears again. It has the very atmosphere of the game.
