Rockstar Games has unleashed an extremely new community race in GTA Online that has players shapesifting during a very fast transportation on a freight train. The new mode, dubbed JayVeePee’s F2F T.R.A.I.N, is part of the recent Community Race Series update and is being offered on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Enhanced versions of the game. This Transform Race takes players into a completely different madness as they switch their vehicles at every checkpoint while trying to ride on a train that is racing through Los Santos.
And what is the community’s reaction to this news? It really splits into two opinions – while some feel very excited over the addition of the new chaotic content others simply cry out louder for the release of GTA 6. The responses to the tweet announcing the update from Rockstar look almost like a battleground where one side is all set to embrace the train madness while the other one simply says “WHERE’S TRAILER 3???”
A gamer shared their thoughts that could be taken as a reflection of the general vibe: “Transforming on a train that’s speeding? GTA is really here trying to figure out if I have reflexes or just panic skills.” Which is indeed the very essence of this race mode – total and utter chaos that will determine if you are quick enough to change vehicles and not get swallowed up by the train’s speed.
The person who organized the race Chazak Magen spoke very much about what is the reason behind such high intensity of the race. He said it is a “hardcore” experience that “right on, pulls you into the action and quickly makes it a challenge to keep up.” It feels as if you are not just racing – you are evolving, metamorphosing into another being, and stopping at every checkpoint as if it were a test for your instincts. You might be a snake in a tunnel trying to see through the heavy train wagons with your head and then like a bird flying out into the open, where gravity is your fiercest adversary. The change of vehicles is continuous, the load is shifting unpredictably, sometimes the grip is there and sometimes it is not, and the clock is tireless. Sounds pretty much like my usual day in GTA Online.
Despite Rockstar’s continuous effort in releasing new content for an over a decade-old game, the main story is that the users asking for a GTA 6 announcement still fill the comment section of the post. Some comments are like “Anything but GTA 6 news” accompanied by an eye-roll emoji and “This aint the trailer 3” and last but not least “Doing everything but releasing GTA 6.” The exasperation is more than apparent and it is quite clear that a considerable part of the player community has absolutely lost all interest in GTA Online updates.
One user even commented in Portuguese that according to Google Translate, the message is approximately “Go f yourself Rockstar son of a b, don’t even release that piece of s game called GTA 6, why release it? Nobody is hyped for this trash anymore.” Ouch! That is really some intense fury.
On the contrary, the crowds for the new race mode have not lost their excitement completely. “Rockstar really said ‘new mode, same chaos, good luck'” is what one player expressed using a face crying with laughter emoji which might as well be the case for anything that has to do with Transform Races in GTA Online. These modes have always been complete madness so why should there be no limitation for them to be on a moving train? That would just result in a glorious disaster.
From the race description, one can tell it would be like a high-speed nightmare where players have to foresee vehicle changes, slide into exits, jump precisely, and sort of get the rhythm of the track instead of fighting it. So, it could almost be described as a dance routine in cars with the backdrop of the sounds of screaming metal and exploding cars. Which to be honest is pretty much what GTA Online has always been at its core.
The community’s situation is really at a very interesting crossroads. On one hand, there are the die-hards who cannot wait to get new content, on the other hand, there are the ones that have totally lost interest in GTA V and just want to hear about GTA 6, and then there is that one person asking for lowriders to be added to the showroom of Benny’s. The priorities are simply a total mess here.
This release’s timing is a bit ironic as we are in that strange phase where GTA 6 has been announced but it might still be years before we actually get to play it. So Rockstar’s strategy appears to be “keep crankin’ out the content for GTA Online that the people want so that they stay engaged and are willing to Buy Shark Cards” while they are busy with the next big thing. And the truth is? It’s working out for them!
