Apex Legends has been one of the most successful battle royale games to come out for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Respawn really hit a home run with its mechanics, stellar graphics, and group-play design. It shares the central concepts of Fortnite and PUBG, but really has fleshed out the mechanics.

Like with most battle royale games, though, there are those who try to game the system. It’s happening quite a bit in Apex Legends in fact. To counteract these cheating tactics, Respawn recently banned over 355,000 users. Despite this massive ban maneuver, the battle is far from over according to community manager Jay Frechette. He had this to say concerning the matter:

‘’We’ll need to continue to adapt to and be very vigilant about fighting. We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about the health of Apex Legends for all players. We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we’re going to have to be pretty secretive about our plans. Cheaters are crafty and we don’t want them to see us coming.”

It’s nice to see Respawn take a strong approach to users trying to make this competitive game unfair for others. It really does affect the overall experience, especially when you’re trying to play straight up with friends or even with some randoms.

Apex Legends has grown tremendously in popularity, just in the past few weeks. These anti-cheat efforts will be needed as more players continue to join the servers. Respawn even has an anti-cheat team dedicated to improving the overall experience for users. Such a proactive approach should prove effective.

This recent large-scale ban should send waves throughout the battle royale community. Sure, there will always be select users looking for a competitive advantage, but Respawn is doing the right thing. It shows that they’re committed to making the playing field level for all users, regardless of skills and experience.

Respawn has already received a lot of great feedback given that Apex Legends is completely free. Yet, it feels like a $60 AAA game. Add to the fact that the gaming experience is continually improving, it seems like Respawn can do no wrong.

The question is: Will there be players brave enough to come up with more cheats after seeing this recent ban? It seems doubtful, but Respawn is gearing up for the next wave of cheats either way. Let’s see where this battle ends up a couple of months from now.
