The nightmare is now coming back into the world. Resident Evil: Requiem, a new entry in the survival horror franchise, will get its exclusive announcement presentation at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live held on Tuesday, August 19. The announcement, posted on Twitter by Geoff Keighley, sent players away into wild speculation and hype.

How much do we know of the game? Very little, but attempts shall be made to alter that. The teaser tweet from the Resident Evil official account read, “The nightmare isn’t over,” qualified only by the blood emoji, very much in line with proper RE vibes. The reveal will take place during the kickoff show of Gamescom, which in these past few years has gone on to be a major location for game announcements.

Looking through the replies of this tweet already lets you have a glimpse at just how thirsty players are for anything with an impact related to Resident Evil. From cries to bring Claire Redfield back to hopeful cries for the Announce Demo (we’ll touch on that one shortly), the community is buzzing. Someone even wonders if they will get the Silksong release date at that same show, sorry amigo, wrong nightmare.

And this is where the demo situation gets interesting: word is circulating from user MRT5789 that there will be a playable demo at Gamescom and hopes that it will then be released publicly. Conflicting this is user J19_Gaming89, who contends, “If I know Capcom, they normally do demos around October.”

The demo could quite possibly come around sooner than later. There’s only a really good chance of it because Capcom does have a legendary history of releasing demos for the Resident Evil games.

This cast wish-list is well-deserving. 4everbuffy hopes that this new trailer will include “Chris, Jill, Leon and Claire” while NeonSlice just outright demands “more Claire Redfield.” Those classic RE characters can definitely hype it up, and Capcom knows it. After the flash-hit success of Lady Dimitrescu in Village, they’re definitely going to give us another worthy character to obsess over.

At this point, Spanish fans are already making memes, with Naomi_Misora93 joking with “la NAAAOOOOOTURRAAAAAAAAA” (all caps followed by crying-laughing emojis). The Resident Evil fandom transcends language barriers when it heats up.

This is interesting- the use of Gamescom by Capcom for this. As user Gro3_ stated, “Leveraging big events like Gamescom is smart for focused audience engagement.” Obviously, after the recent record-breaking success of Resident Evil Village, they know a thing or two about whetting appetites.

So, until the big reveal on Tuesday, let’s wildly speculate: will this be a direct follow-up to Village? A remake of another classic? Something brand new? So, far, the blood emoji says they chose to stick with horror, which is terrific for fans who are itching to see this sweat-inducing series have a bit of a scare.

One thing’s for sure: Resident Evil’ll surely stay. From this announcement to the forthcoming Netflix series, the franchise seems to be healthy and thriving via constant rumors of a Code: Veronica Remake. Maybe 2024 and beyond are where the Gamescom reveal will set the tone for Capcom and horror.

Save the Date: August 19! Regardless of the camp: Claire, Leon, or just plain ol’ Survival Horror-this is surely one reveal you just can’t miss. And if that demo really does show up? Well, say goodbye to sleeping for the rest of the week.
